Soft backplates

@decompression , do you know the actual weight of UTD Camo plate (i couldn't see it on the provided website)? I'm looking for light weight alternatives for my current DiveRite Stainless steel LITE backplate. Thank you!

I can say it weighs almost nothing....even with the harness it’s still super light, no where near an Aluminum backplate.

My aluminum backplate is only 2 lbs. I am not sure I would like a soft plate enough to justify a < 2 lb. weight savings. Most times when I travel I take the steel because I find I can accommodate the 4 lb difference by shifting things between checked and carry on.

Is the utd softplate completely flexible or does it have a layer inside that makes it semi-rigid?

There’s a rigid part to it, it flexes but still holds its shape.

Any chance you guys will release any kind of a soft backplate system similar to the Transpac from Diverite? I'm considering taking some steps to lighten my luggage and was thinking about trying some alternatives to my current hard backplates.

Tanks themselves are rigid so why is more needed? Just wondering seriously. I dive an old Scubapro x-tek which is kind of like a Dive Rite transpac and I finally got to try on a similar size buddy’s BP/W , which I expected to love after reading about it but instead I felt kind of trapped, shoulders tight, back pressed against something so hard and straight...

Sounds like your shoulder straps were set way too tight .....
