We just got back from 6 great days in Cozumel. I’ve been to the island many times, but this was the first time in 15 years (took a long break while having/raising 2 boys). Now it was finally time to get them certified.

We did the pool classes in Denver & set up referral dives in Cozumel. We ended up using two places that aren’t mentioned very often here on SB. The Landmark Resort and Scuba Life Cozumel. We were very happy with both.

We stumbled across The Landmark and liked the larger 2-bedroom, 3 bath, with full (nice) kitchens they offered. I decided to give them a try & I’m glad I did. They’ll be at the top of our list next time.

Scuba Life Cozumel was also a pleasant find. They are a very professional company & quickly responded to my emails. Setting up the referral dives & subsequent 2 tank dives was easy & they were flexible with the times.

One example of their great service & communication was when I sent an email at breakfast saying my son’s ears were hurting & asked if they sold ear drops at the shop. They had a 2nd boat come deliver some while we were en route to our 1st dive.

Their boat was one of the nicest I’ve been on & the crew were all great to deal with.

As a side note, Global Entry paid huge dividends coming back through DFW. They had a separate line to re-check bags for GE and the regular one was very long. Something to think about if any of you are on the fence about getting it. Our two hour layover may have been tight without it, but with it, we had plenty of time for dinner.

Ok…enough typing. Trip report threads don’t count without pics or video, right? Here’s a video I put together on the flight back. Probably needs to be edited down a little (almost 12 minutes long) but there’s some good Mumford & Sons playing to pass the time. Saw lots of cool stuff in a pretty short time.

Hope you enjoy it!

Diving with family, priceless! Good for you.

Now you guys can work on buoyancy and no hands....

The gang at Scuba Life Cozumel are the best! We have spent 6-7 weeks diving with them since we switched to them about 2 years ago, they have more than exceeded my expectations. They are a small operation so kind of get nervous when I see their name pop up b/c I'm selfish and don't want them to get too busy to fit us on their boat when we visit Coz. They do have a smaller 2nd boat but as of Nov 2017 they were undecided if they wanted to register it for park use due to the HEFTY park fees for each boat.

Another example of their service; JP (one of the owners) actually setup a doctor appt and transported me to the clinic to get checked for the bends. I am a bit over weight, not in the best of shape and have been diving 14 days straight so he did not want me to take any chances. I did not have the bends (just sore from the dang hard Mexican beds!) but was impressed he was so concerned about my well being.

There was no charge for the doctor visit, he said they had a "relationship' of some kind. Not sure if all the dive ops in Coz have a relationship with chamber docs or not but it felt reassuring that Scuba Life Cozumel had this coverage for their divers. He did mention that there is quite a difference in the quality of the (chamber) clinics/doctors on the island and sometimes treatments are prescribed needed or not.

Thanks for the report. Diving with family is a wonderful thing. Good luck with your diving adventures. :)

Very cool video. What do they say? "Take a kid fishing and he as food for a day but teach a kid to fish he has food for a lifetime". Teach kids to dive and they have a life long hobby that will change them forever. I wonder how many kids were laying on beaches glued to their smart phones without any interest in where they were other than "Where can we get WIFI" while your's were actually living, learning, experiencing and building confidence. Hats off to Todd!

Now you can work on not making digs on a guy diving with his children for the first time.
I'm from NY, Digs are common ....

I wish a "fellow diver" pointed this out to my wife because when I did, she said I was exaggerating! Thankfully came along GoPro....lol......took about 5 years for her to lock her hands and swim like a diver....my daughter caught on fast!
