Hello all,

I’m headed to Bonaire for the first time in August (1st week) and wondering what the water conditions & water temps are like? Also, btw my first time shore diving as well.

Appreciate the feedback.

Water temp is probably going to be in the low 80's and conditions are usually calm with visibility of 70 ft + . Last year when we were there in August a hurricane passed 400 miles north of the island and so for a couple of days there were tons of dolphins between Bonaire an Klien Bonaire. The weather is going to be hot with the trade winds dying down a little. Good luck and happy diving

Get a guide for the first day to show you the ropes. Check out VIP Diving, they do guided shore dives with 4 divers max per group. I used them 5 years ago and heading back next month with 4 friends and 2 have never shore dived so we hired a guide for the first morning and our first night dive just so everyone feels comfortable.

Exactly what @David Barca said. I was there last August from the 12th-20th. Water temps and visibility the same as described. Trade winds did die down much of the week, making things a tad more hot and uncomfortable above the water at times. That being said, it was a wonderful month to be there. The island is much quieter that time of year. I have been in December, April and August. Where will you be staying?

Thank you all.
@Trailboss123, Staying at an airbnb (owner does guided dives, so hopefully it should be good).
Nice- We stayed at an Air BNB our last trip (December 2-10, 2017). It was a good experience. It was right on the water and the owner had stairs going into the water. It was about 300 meters north of Bachelor beach. Was cool to have a house reef all to ourselves.

GypsyJim and I will be on island that week if you need someone to do some dives with.

I will have multiple new divers with me. His group on the other hand remembers the color of the first ever recreational BC's :)

I will be on the island until August 4th if you need any help or have any questions please feel free to reach out. We love the island so much we bought a house there a couple of years ago so if anyone is interested we do rent it out when we aren't using it. You will have a great time

I love Bonaire in the summer. Warm water and lighter breezes.
Seemed to be less busy as well.

Just stay in or near the water till the sun sets.
