I never felt threatened in Egypt, even when I went all alone. I would avoid Hurghada and Sharm, just because there are so many divers. It's like diving in a zoo, bubbles everywhere! El Gouna, Marsa and liveaboards are just great and the dives are fantastic.

I just returned from Sharm and Dahab, had a wonderful time and never had any issues. We had a large group that went (20+) people, and there were some couples. Common sense is key, but everyone we encounter was very pleasant. I would recommend Camel Dive in Sharm, they have a great staff, and a well equipped boat (Camel Tribe). They make trips to Dahab, and handle all the logistics. One thing to keep in mind is that Egypt has now implemented the VAT, so count on another 14% for it.

Happy Diving!

Was in Marsa Alam this past summer (July). It was amazing! Flew Cairo to Hurghada, then had a driver to the dive site. Just two middle aged ladies out for some amazing diving!! I stayed at Red Sea Diving Safari - Marsa Alam - Home and would HIGHLY recommend them. Great staff, reasonable pricing, two walk-in house reefs, and daily boats to Elphinstone.

Was in Egypt for 2 weeks, as a single female, and never once felt unsafe. People were friendly and many spoke English. As a woman, if you have a question, ask another woman.

Happy diving! Oh, and contact me if you are looking for another woman to dive with - my friend lives in Cairo and is always looking for dive partners...

Thanks for the trip, I'd like to spend some time at a shore resort w/ my daughter someday, before or after a liveaboard trip.
I've only been to Elphistone for 2 dives, both times the current kept us hunkered down in a relatively limited area. What was it like when you were there?
