Doing my TDI advanced nitrox now and moving into deco procedure next and so far the only painful thing has been the octo bungee ripping out my beard hair every time I switch to it.

I started out with using a silicone one and have now switched over to just some shock cord/bungee tied in DIR fashion and while it is better than before I am still suffering.

Is there any fix (other than shaving) to this or am I doomed to losing some hair during dives?

How big is the beard? I've got a modest one, but never had a problem.

Never had a problem. Usually under the hood, except in warm water. Maybe my beard is less patriarchal than yours ? Would check the bungee.

Side question: While diving to depths requiring Deco, wouldn't it be safer to ensure minimal pressure points such as shaving or trimming your beard to ensure no distractions while switching gases?

Unless our friend's beard is as long as Noah's or old father time's himself, it shoudn't be a problem. Watch again some old Cousteau TV Shows, most divers were bearded and practising deco diving...

Rob McGann and Forrest Wilson are two big names in cave diving with even bigger bears. Most of the time they just let it go, but I've seen them put hair ties in them as well to keep it under control. If it's long enough, that may be an answer

Never had an issue although my beard is neatly trimmed these days but in the past when it was longer I never had an issue.
