What sacrifices have you made for diving?

Ok, so I used to be a shopaholic. Luxury cars, fancy dinners, luxury handbags, shoes, clothing, etc. I spared no expense to be a princess.

I have given all that up so I can afford more dive trips to more exotic locations. I have lost friends because I no longer want to fly to Paris or NYC to shop. I have lost other friends because I no longer want to spend money to eat fancy dinners and stay at fancy hotels. I don’t have any friends left!

What sacrifices have you made for diving?

My curly tresses. I get a very short hair cut before each dive trip and have to wave goodbye to all my curls.

Vacations with:
- Martini bars, top shelf liquors, fancy cocktails
- Fabulous speciality restaurants
- Sleep-ins followed by a relaxed breakfast (omelettes made to order)
- Cultural excursions
- Staying up late dancing, or just staying up later than 10:00 pm.

I think losing the friends was the true sacrifice, not all the other extraneous stuff.

I have pretty much quit all hobbies except for diving. I haven't golfed in over a year. I rarely surf anymore. I've made a bunch of compromises to prevent arguments. I only dive during the week, I'm lucky that I have a job that has a lot of leave and allows me to change my work schedule to build up comp time.
I'd have a lot more money in my bank account if it wasn't for diving, but the memories, photos, and the great people I've met are priceless to me
