Found cheep flights to San Andres, Columbia. Sounds like the diving is great but I can only find info from Tripadvisor. Any Scubaboard folks with info? Any suggestions for dive operators, lodging? We booked in mid-September. Any information would be appreciated.

Years ago there was an article about the diving in San Andres in Undercurrents. It sounded great and I considered a trip there, but never made it.

I can't speak to the diving in San Andres, but it's pretty touristy top-side. I'd suggest grabbing a puddle jumper to Providencia and spending time there. It's a charming little island with a relaxed vibe and some great diving.

Limited experience(2 dives) in San Andres, but Providencia seemed much better. I was there just last week (end of may 2018, beginning of june).

I am very interested in and have been reading about Providencia. Could you tell me who you dived with there? suggestions of places to stay, or any other information would be great!

I took a boat there from San Andreas. I had no problem with getting sick, but others do so ..... you may want to take a plane. I dove with Sonny's Diveshop. There were usually 4-6 divers and as I recall one DM. The first dive of the day is relatively deep. Maybe 30-35m or 100 ft. Almost always saw sharks on the first dive. Clarity was pretty good. There are a lot of places to stay. The next beach down (southwest beach) is very nice and there may be a horse race on Saturday. They practice very early in the morning. Dive prices are VERY reasonable. The whole island is very chill. While there are some restaurants/bars it does not have much nightlife. Mostly just fire(s) on the beach. The place I stayed was fine, but nothing to write home about. Expect to pay 25-35 for a room depending on what you want. Since there are only a few dive operators it never felt crowded at the dive sites. Not a lot of current. It is not the easiest place to get to, but I was already in Columbia.

Thank you- yes, I understand one can fly from San Andreas to Providencia and we would do that rather than the 3 hour ferry. I will look into Sonny's. I do not dive so I think I will look at one of the nicer places to stay since I will be on my own a good bit every day while he dives. We don't need nightlife- chill is perfect! Prices look good compared to some other places we have traveled.
Did you dive the wreck of the Planchon?

I always dive with Felipe when in Provodencia. Have since 2002. He has some groovy lodges that he owns or maybe some family member owns them or something. It's never quite clear. It's a small island, I reckon he's related to everyone.

I recommend Sonnys; you can see sharks but they don’t feed them unlike other irresponsible DCs. BTW everyone, ColOmbia does not have a “U”
