I had DM3 until my computer crashed and it worked satisfactorily. I had to load DM-5 on my new computer and now it shows every 2nd dive downloaded from my vyper at twice actual depth. I was afraid I was having problems with the vyper until I downloaded the dives into subsurface and they all showed normally. I don't know who designed the software, but if it won't work with their own computers, heads should roll.

Just a note... I found that I had to keep the Suunto Cobra connected to the laptop and let it cycle through a few (3+) connections and downloads to download all the dives from the dive computer to the laptop. I knew there were dives missing, and by pure mistake I left the dive computer connected to the laptop and noticed it going through the download process 3+ times, than all of a sudden the missing dive appeared.

I'm not sure if that's normal for the Suunto Cobra-1 and DM5 (I just bought them), but it's certainly how it worked with both our Cobra-1s.

Recently purchased a Suunto Vyper 2 and have about 10 dives in my dive log on the wrist computer. decided I would try and transfer them to the computer and I can't get it to work. I downloaded DM5 and all the associated plug ins it required. I plug in my data cable and open the application and nothing happens. Please help!

Some, and I am not sure exactly which models, need you to manually select a “pc transfer mode” on the dive computer.

Other than that, make sure you do a complete reboot of the pc after install. Run DM5 and then plug in the cable, and the dive computerto the cable.

To follow up on what KenGordon said...

Some Suunto computers do go into download mode automatically when the cable is connected to it and the desktop or laptop while some have to be done manually. I don't know which way the Vyper 2 is set up, but if it doesn't go into transfer mode automatically, you'll need to do it via the menu on the computer. Consult your owner's manual for instruction on how to do this. If you don't have the manual, you should be able to google it and download it.

Second piece of advice, and this is very important, dump DM5 immediately and go to some other digital dive log such as Subsurface, Divelog, or any number of 3rd party dive logging software. You'll save yourself loads of frustration and angst.

I went thru and installed and uninstalled the software 3 times and reset my MAC each time. It still doesn’t work. The dive computer enters ‘data transfer’ mode as soon as the cable is connected. The DM5 app won’t recognize that the computer is connected...

I’m all for trying a different app. Will I be able to upload dive logs directly to the aftermarket app or have to input the information manually?

I use subsurface after having similar issues to yours. I lost the dives that were stored in DM3 when my computer crashed, and thought my Vyper had died when it wouldn't load into either DM4 or 5. I was a happy man when it loaded correctly into subsurface. At this point, I don't know if I would buy another Suunto computer.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel. I really like my Vyper Novo, but if (when) I need to replace it, I'll have to seriously look at the Perdix AI.

Ok, so I download Subsurface and open up the app, all excited to upload my dive log from my wrist computer and wouldn’t you know? It doesn’t give me USB connection as an option to upload the info from the computer... I am reaching my breaking point with this nonsense...
