Oops, wrong black cap. that is a much newer first stage than I am familiar with. ignore my comments unless confirmed by someone else...

Your dry bleed is pooched. Most likely the bleed filter is contaminated by grease. The reg still works fine, it will just let water into the ambient chamber.
I guess even with 20 dives on it, things can go wrong? Thanks...this is why I purchased a pony....to check gear prior to use.

That’s not our first stage....no ports without metal caps or hoses attached.

Here's some pics of my Brut first stage. It is very clearly a "Brut" because it is etched on the body. On the other side (back) is the little, black, rubber check valve. Are you saying you don't have a check valve? When connected to a tank it should have bubbles coming out of it.

I read somewhere that on the newer models they moved the internal positive-pressure valve off of the piston (but I've never taken one apart so I don't know what it looks like) but I thought they still had the rubber check valve. I could be wrong.

boat sju's pics show the check valve bubbling with a soap solution on it.

it's one of those new fangled first stages. fyi the bruts pictured above are from the early 1980's or before...

do you know your model number? Maybe a Brut SRB9110? Or Magnum SRB9113?

can you provide additional pictures showing the side of the body and all ports without a hose?
