Hi guys. I have just replaced one of the air spools on my rig and had a leak when I tested it. I have taken the spool out and can't see any damage or flaws in it . I have then tried it in the other way round and no leak. I repeated this a few times with the same result. My question is are they directional and if not is this a dud spool that I should return ? I did lube it on the way in as a gentleman should. Thanks.

Not all the spools are the same diameter or length. Are you sure it is an exact replacement?

Looks identical except the new one has the green o rings. thanks.

If it is the air spool with the central collar I only know of one type. None of the three types of spools I am aware of are directional.

I’d say a defective spool or o-ring

You are spot on. I just put the micrometer on it and one of the o rings is just a tad smaller in diameter. I didn't think they were directional as it is just a tube with o rings. Going to ask for a replacement. thanks for the replys.

Are micrometers a usual component of a save-a-dive kit ?

If so, are there brands that are better then others ?

No. But a spare spool should be, especially for travel diving. The most common o-ring leak I have had is by far from those spools. Fortunately they usually start as just a small stream of bubbles giving the diver some time to get it fixed. You could just carry some of the o-rings, and I do, but replacement of just the o-rings can be a challenge. The spools are cheap enough that I just keep spares.
