What's your favorite set of doubles?

Not what most are talking about, but doubles none the less. Since I dive wet on the NorCal coast, it is a balance of gas and hypothermia. It does look sweet with a doublehose attached.

I not sure what those imperial/ American measurements equal to in metric terms. It would be nice if someone could explain the sizes in both metric and imperial.

@Compressor on the breather, you can get into a brand new unit with training for under $10k which is quite expensive, but if you're doing any trimix the ROI is surprisingly fast. OTS lungs tend to feel pretty bulky but some units like the SF2 are really no worse than a double hose regulator so quite a clean setup. The other nice thing is not having to worry about fills or anything. I did 4 dives off of NC this summer and just left my meg on the boat overnight. Didn't need fills or to change the scrubber so just left it on there. Popped the head off and let the scrubber dry on the ride back in on day 1, reassembled and it was waiting for me at o' dark thirty on day 2.

Thank you @tbone1004. Well I am a simple diver who does not do trimix. Mainly cause none of my buddies do it and also because most of my dives are <100 feet. This does not mean that I don't like trimix; In Bonaire, most of my dives are >100 feet.

Good reference point for you that has the metric equivalents. We do not have 300bar bottles in the US, nor do we have concave bottom steels in the US

Switch to a rebreather instead. That's what I did.

HaHa! Ain't happenin'. I'm fine with blowing bubbles. I don't like to spend money on things that obsolesce.

As far as a rebreather, that ship sailed when I retired. I stopped jonesing for one and now see it as an expensive luxury. I do just fine with old school tech.

What do you mean @tbone1004? Both my LP85s and LP50s are concave bottom.

concave bottom tanks look like the bottom of welding bottles and will stand up without a boot

Why not? I’ve definitely seen concave tanks in some of those Wkpp vids

TBone answered nicely. I can easily lift them up with one hand but when I lift them, I hug them and lift with my knees rather than back. For a younger person, this might be different but I need to be careful.

Be careful, they are so nice you might get 2 sets. That's what happened to me. My LP85s are getting little use these days and I was in love with them (still am).


Which one?
Its a very expensive option and it appears to be much bigger and bulkier. I want to but for now, the cost is prohibitive.

I’m a huge fan of Liberty and Optima, not necessarily in that order. You can get a used Optima including training for under 6k. There are no used Liberties.
For Open Water, they’re not any bulkier than a set of doubles or sidemount. And a lot lighter.

Smallest set to get the dive done safely?

12L/100’s for single long shore dives

16L/104/130 for cave, deep, double dives

Have a LP95 set (15L) that are my shallow tanks (no O2/mix) for shallow bubble blowing.

Add a bottom stage of required for the dive.


With the new RB, these might change. We’ll see how next week goes stage mounting it!
