If I recall separate price list were dealers prices. I could be wrong, as age plays tricks on one's mind.

For us middle aged young kids, what did a regular steel 72 go for on those price lists back in the day? Just to put those prices into reference.

The price you quoted from GOK where is considerably less than the published jobber, dealer and retail prices
A review of my US Divers catalog of that year revealed the following retail prices
1972 US Divers catalog- pages 6, 7, 8 7 & 9
Single 53-- $102.95 to $117.95
Singe 72-- $114.95 to 134.95
Price variation depended on valve type and cylinder finish
It is noted you are retied military - I and collectively we thank you for your service to the United States of America

Even so, that was a high price in the day. Putting a standard tank for the day in reference still puts it at 5X the price.
I remember cleaning out the glove box of an old car many years ago. Found the original sales receipt. $3300 for the car, $300 down and the remaining $3000 financed over 3 years. That was for a 1976 new car (no option Plymouth).

The unit consisted of three (3) scuba tanks, a special regulator & a shell
3 regulators X 100 =300.00-- regulator 150 = 450 + back pack 50 = 500
Then the modern Shell ?
They were highly advertised- each catalog had several full pages devoted to the unit
Many of the magazine of that era also contained full advertisement for them.
Long before your graced the world of recreational diving US divers sold a lot of them.
Sadly they had three small cylinders and were expensive to maintain - so many were just tossed.
