Apeks finger spool + shipping limitations outside UK?

I want to buy an Apeks 45m finger spool. In the US it retails for around $170 before shipping. In the UK it's about $90, and with shipping is about $110-120.

However, I can't buy it from a UK retailer to ship here, as Apeks actively prohibits it.

What's the deal? It's not like I'm going to sell Apeks UK-only finger spool technology to Libya.

In any case, does anyone know whether the spool sold in the US is identical to the one sold in the UK? If it is I'll just have it sent to me by a mail forwarder. (Why do you have to make my life harder Apeks?)

I just did the math, I can buy the 15m and the 60m shipped for $137.31.

From a well known Midwest dive shop without shipping or taxes it is $300.

Now do I want to order the 45m or the 60m?

Along the same lines - Apeks regs are considerably cheaper in Europe.

If you’re not so set on these spools, don’t others make some along the same lines?

Aliexpress offers spools that do look alot like the Apeks spools.

I really want the 45m one but as others have said, can they really be that much better than the no brand ones to warrant the extra $100?

No, I was just venting because the two places I tried blocked the shipping (one was Simply Scuba; I don’t remember the other one now). I stopped trying after that.
