Maybe not, but those spools are way different from the Apex spools. If you use an Apex spool you'll understand why they're so good
Every sport has good gear and high quality gear.

Some are happy with good gear others want the high quality.

It isn't that DGX or Apeks are that different, it is the little things, the chamfers vs filet edges, the feel of the material, the locations of the cut outs on the sides.

Mercedes G-wagon vs Toyota Rav4

quality wine glass vs red solo cup

Edit: intending to support your comment, not counter point.

I can't speak with authority on it, but I would never have thought to wonder if Aqualung US was knocking off their own Apeks product. I would think they are the same item. Now I am wondering who would know if there are some hefty import fees levied on some/many of the Apeks items that are imported from the UK and add to the landed cost here in the US.

Oh totally

Someone thought about it. Even teh large spools easily spin between the thumb and finger, the rim is easy to wind and the thickness of the flange means it doesn't' easily come off a double ender.

But and a big but, it's hard to justify those little things financially.

For me, without being melodramatic, I know I can fly my dsmb and use the spool while being tossed around in a washing machine current without thought. A normal spool needs a tiny bit of my attention given to it

Here, deralin spools don't' stand up to the heat and UV, they become brittle - I have a couple that lasted little more than a year.

I personally like gear that's well thought out and works well. But thats' just me

exactly.

Sometimes the advantages can't be explained until you use a tool.

People say ohh thats a skill issue or ohh you just need to get used to it. But why?

Good gear only increases your abilities.

Note: that is not to say that gear is a substitute for skills, its not. A canister light is far superior vs a AA powered light, but not everyone should use a canister light. . .

If the Apeks is indeed cut down from a solid aluminum block (billet) then that could make it way the hell more expensive than anything welded up from some pipe and plate.

If Apeks is like almost any other product that has regional or national distributors, then the US distributor has exclusive distribution rights, the others can and will lose their authorization if they breach that right, and each distributor generally gets to set their own warranty policies, advertising expenses, and retail pricing among other things. That's the way business goes in the global village, any business.

Is the possible extra strength of the unwelded reel worth anything? Depends on how often you need a small step-ladder, I guess. Are the aesthetics of it worth anything? Oh, come one, which one of us doesn't own at least ONE item that we bought at least partly because it looked or felt better than something which would have worked as well?

So...if that one place that says they'll ships Apeks can and does, and that's what you want...business as usual in the global village. Get 'em before Apeks cuts them off.

Trying to understand what point you are making with that link. "Starting at $110" is the MSRP price of the 15m reel in the US, so Leisure Pro (now an authorized Aqualung/Apeks dealer) is not underselling the US pricing that the OP is questioning.

I've always thought that spool was CrAzY expensive, and just overkill... after reading through this I think I may want one... :(:(
