Is it open to anyone outside of the US or Canada?
It used to be, so I had it. However it changed. I haven't checked back in a while.
Good question. I went to dan.org today to check on upgrading to the Guardian level, and noticed they only have options for the US and Canada. (Another reason for maintaining a legal domicile in the US.) @Christi - do you know if DAN offers coverage or if there are similar providers for those living in Mexico and elsewhere abroad?

It is a little tricky. There is a separate coverage for those WORKING as Dive Professionals in Mexico - but if you are simply a US citizen here, keep the DAN America preferred. The coverage for working professionals is not as extensive but is designed to cover our local DM's and Instructors for the treatment needed in the event we need it - but we do need to carry the coverage and they've made it affordable for the average MX DM/Instructor. Sadly, there are many who don't carry it and then if something happens, there end up being cries for help and GoFund me pages set up for others to pick up the bill. All of my dive staff have DAN coverage!

This only applies to US citizens, correct?

It sounds like this is DAN insurance available for pros who are not US/Canadian citizens (at least in Mexico). It makes sense that the coverage wouldn't be as comprehensive - medivac to one's home country shouldn't generally be required, for example.

Which part are you referring to?

There is special DAN coverage for any dive professional working as a dive professional (DM or Instructor) in Mexico regardless of nationality.

If you are a US Citizen and here for a vacation or extended vacation or even retired (or not) and living here, but not working as a professional - then you are eligible for standard DAN coverage - I always recommend the Preferred or Master plan - the basic plan is worthless if you really need it because there are so many conditions and exclusions.

NOT Exactly! Even before I became a Mexican Citizen, I was not eligible for the standard DAN coverage. I was required to get the DAN World coverage for dive professionals here.

For me living in Florida the master plan is my base available option. So your saying I should skip the master plan since it’s my basic option and go with preferred or guardian?
