I have recently switched over to a long hose and necklace setup, which I like when I am doing shore diving or in a small group.

But, what about being on a recreational dive boat with 11 other people where everyone is gearing up shoulder to shoulder? Does a 7' hose get in other people's way and make a tangled mess?

Thanks!
(I guess this is the right place to post. I tried to post in the DIR forum, but I do not have sufficient privileges.)

On a dive boat with 5-6 rec other divers is my experience. And, no, it’s not a PITA.

Not at all! It's easy to keep the hose neat and tidy. Make sure you have a bolt snap on the hose just below the second stage so that you ALWAYS clip it off to your right shoulder D-ring when it's not in your mouth. This also keeps the second stage from falling on the deck and potentially getting damaged, which is more of a problem with a long hose.

Being a good boat diver always means keeping all of your gear ship-shape and not strewn about.

Congratulations on going to the long primary hose. Great choice!

My wife has 2 bolt snaps on her rig, one on the hose at the second stage, one about halfway down the hose. Her one halfway down gets clipped to a waist D-ring, the one by her second stage slips to a shoulder D-ring when not in use.

OTOH, I have no clips on my long hose. I just coil it up inside my arm straps and hang my second stage over the first stage. 20 years on a 24 passenger liveaboard and I never had a second stage get damaged.

Never had a problem on the mother ship or a panga.

On a set of doubles, its easy to wrap the long hose around the manifold to keep it neat and tidy. As others have mentioned, on a single tank, just use a bolt snap and clip it to your harness D-ring.

That's because as customers, we were all scared of what you and Mel would do to us if we damaged your second stage...
