Vyper Won't Switch to Metric

Why the concern? I'm guessing you're a recreational diver and you said this is a backup computer.

The principal thing you need the computer for is for how much NDL time remains if your primary craps out. Metric/imperial units are a big don't care. . .

It matters if you are diving Nitrox. The Vyper is a Nitrox capable computer.

It also matters if you use your computer in dive planning prior to your dive or between dives during the surface interval.

Just because the feature or ability to change units is not relevant to you does not mean that it is universally not relevant.

I personally would want to be able to set my computer to the units I am comfortable with, especially if I am diving deep where narcosis may be an issue and not being familiar with the unit of measurement could cause additional confusion in the already compromised narcosis state.

Remember this is a backup computer, so dive planning is not an issue, and the computer takes care of your MOD when you put in the mix, so that is not an issue either (assuming, of course, you know how to read the computer). Much ado about nothing. . .

As a backup computer it is even more important not less important. If I need to switch to my backup because my primary failed, especially if it happens during a dive, I don't want to start thinking in a way where I have to decipher what my computer is telling me, I want to seemlessly transition to my backup and either continue my dive or head for the surface...and again if this happens at a depth where narcosis is a factor then the difference in units may add unnecessary confusion which increases risk/danger.
