The screen is color LCD (2,2” 320x240). We will offer battery replacement service if needed. GF out of the box will be three presets. S1 is engineered and designed in Sweden (manufactured in Asia). We plan to develop a transmitter for AI for the S1.

What are the 3 presets? Will this be a proprietary transmitter, unique to your brand?

We haven’t defined the presets yet, do you have suggestions? :)
An S1 transmitter would use ultrasonic comms, so unfortunately it won’t be compatible with electromagnetic ones used by other manufacturers.

No reason you wouldn't have a conservative, moderate, and liberal setting as does Shearwater in its rec mode, 35/75, 40/85, 45/95. However, you won't be competitive in an increasingly crowded niche without a choice for custom GFs. A proprietary transmitter is not attractive. I think you overestimate the value of your ping. Many of us have no use for it. What demographic is it that you are going for?

The devil, or course, is in the detail. Personally I would find a simple ping of limited utility. And on the downside, although the ping tells you who it is from, I didn't see any indication that you could select who you send a ping to.

It's useful if you are not holding on to your buddy 100% of the time.

E.g. my wife once watched an eagle ray raise from the sand, shake the silt off, and slowly move away while I was photographing a rockfish or something around the corner and a couple metres down. So we have a pair of ultrasonic pingers now.

Scubdada, thanks for your ideas on GF!
The S1 is a rec dive computer, so our target group is not primarily tech divers. We believe that the comms feature together with compass, hi-res screen and all-wireless design and a competitive price will put it at a great place in the line-up.

Dmaziuk, that’s exactly the use case we found the ping feature most useful for in our tests, showing your dive buddy your sightings!

So when i ping someone or visa versa it shows me their location on the compass?

I see this similar to the early car phones, remember those, when they came out who knew they would evolve into what cell phones have become. The technology could grow into some amazing things, buddy locator/tracker, an out of air button with direction so you could swim straight to your buddy as they swim at you ready to provide aid, even the computers being able to warn your buddy or dive group of someone who got distracted and is running low on air, even a digital dive slat/text system of some kind. The possibility for this to improve safety and convenience is endless. It will be interesting to watch this technology grow.

The S1 have a lot of sensors that allow for this, and it's something we are working on doing tests with. If not available out of the box, this might come in an firmware update :)
