I have the Bare strapless 2 mm neoprene caps that work great for warm water diving. Mine has a yellow band, my wife has a red band. Helps us know whose who. I'm afraid they may only be in black now. Anyway, I don't like the strap around my chin and this works great for me. Use it almost always unless water temp is above 84 degrees. I even use it at our quarry until the water temp is below 72. Yes, perforation at the top helps stop that big bubble.

Clicked on the link, and then checked what the cost of shipping would be - it was more than the cost of the beanie.

Contacted my LDS to see if they were doing an order from XS Scuba, and if so could they order one for me. Turns out they have a few in stock, so I can get a beanie locally before I head to Cozumel.

Dive safe !!

Divegoose :)

That's odd. Then again I'm pretty sure I ordered mine with some other items so I didn't notice a crazy shipping charge for just a beanie that weighs an ounce or 2. Anyway, I guarantee it will make a big difference. Don't be afraid to take a hot nail and melt a few tiny holes in the top to vent trapped air. Until I did that the first few dives were so annoying as air from surface entry and then air from my reg while UW would find its way up into the top of the beanie and start screwing up my buoyancy.

It because Divegoose appears to be shipping to Canada. They'll tack on an extra $25 for shipping, duties and taxes where as shipping to the States is free (and also tax free depending on which State you ship to).

You are correct Shawn C - the price was for shipping to Canada. As mentioned in previous post, my LDS actually has some in stock, so no exorbitant shipping fees.

Great informative thread! I’m also going to Cozumel mid-March and still on the fence on selecting which wetsuit to take.

My options are a 5mm full back zip suit or a layered approach. The layered approach would start with a Lycra long sleeve top, then a 2mm sleeveless vest, then a 1.5mm Henderson full suit and topped off with neoprene cap (SCAP). I haven’t tried this layered approach combo in the water yet and wonder if anyone might share their experiences and opinions on how these two suit options might compare and be suitable for my mid-March Cozumel trip.

Thanks in advance for any and all comments!

I’m diving in Cozumel this week. This time of year, I normally use a 5 mil back-zip suit with a 1 mil shirt and Sharkskin hooded vest (3 mil equivalent). I mistakenly grabbed my 3 mil suit when I packed instead of the 5 mil and was a little cold from the minute I hit the water. It’s gotten a little better. I’m not shivering, but I’m not warm either. Really wish I had the 5 mil. I dive with Aldora and consider a 70-minute dive short, so that has to be worked into the calculation. For 45-minute dives, it might not make as much difference. Thought about finding a 3mil shorty to layer on top, but have decided to suck it up and bear the consequences of my mistake.

What are the water temps you are seeing?

I'm heading down there next week.

I dive 3mm shorty down to 75, 3mm full to about 70 degrees, 7mm down to 40 degrees. So its personal preference, if you tend to be colder then a 5 mil would work. Our DM wore a 7mm with a hood in cozumel in October, and she was still chilly.

With 4 dives a day I was fine in 3mm shorty. Night dives I wore a 3mm full. I tend to dive warm though. Enjoy Cozumel, 113 days 12 hours 27 min until I get to return
