Once again you did't explain the gun (s) used, the rigging of the gun (float lines ) How long of float lines and how deep the fish were stuck.
I have only shot a few Hogs -- to me they always offered a great big broadside target area. fun to spear but not a challenge

I have a buddy who claims he was drift diving and was able to pull out a knife and stick a Hogfish. I believe him.
