Anyone need a scuba web dominator?

Hi all,

I'm not very happy with the elastic loops and tire inner tubes I've been using to keep my dangling things from dangling (like flashlights and such). They are never at the right spot or the right size to easily get things in/out.

I think a web dominator might be an excellent choice. They are easy to open/close. They can be moved around on your gear easily. They can accommodate items of different size. Web dominators are also cheap, at around $1 each, but they only come sized for 1 inch web (standard military molle size).

My current BCD has 1.5" web. I'm going to move to a BP/W in the future with 2" web. I've drawn up and laser cut a 2" prototype from acrylic. It seems to work great, but I have to get some right size bungee for more testing. This first prototype is 'slip on' and can easily be removed and replaced elsewhere. I'm also considering a version that looks like a web slider (not quickly removed).

I've attached a picture of my prototype, and a picture of a normal 1" commercially available version.

Please, no flames. Don't want a bunch of feedback on how I must be doing it wrong and so on. Feedback on the design is greatly appreciated.

My plan is to make some 1.5" and 2" models from 1/8" thick Delrin. Unfortunately, the delrin sheets are expensive. Anyone want to share the cost of materials? I'd figure out the actual cost, plus postage (no profit here for me).

They look great, I was concerned with the thread title but quickly got my mind out of the gutter.
I only use 2" webbing but wouldn't mind some smaller size

Ha!! I didn't even think about the title.... sorry about that.

I'm sharing my PM response here, since others may ask the cost...

I'm not sure yet. I don't know the cost of the bungee or the envelope/postage. If it was flat, it would be 55 cents for shipping, but with the bend I might need strange postage. I'm guessing $2 each, or less.

I'll risk the upfront costs, in case I make a mistake. I'm not asking for anything in advance.​

Great question. I would really like to use PVC. Unfortunately the exhaust from the laser cutting includes chlorine gas, which is dangerous (and also damages the cutting hardware). PolyVinylChloride

Today I ordered a 12" x 12" x 3/32" sheet of black Delrin. I hope it is thick enough. I used 1/8" thick acrylic for the prototype and it seemed fine. Delrin is less brittle than the acrylic. I also ordered 100 feet of 1/16" bungee, which is way too much, but the same price as 25ft ?!?! I guess I'll have some spare.

The sheet was $16.72
The bungee was $10.99

Assuming I include 8 inches of bungee with each dominator (cut to fit your need), that's only 8 cents.
Assuming 35 dominators per sheet, that's 48 cents each.

So far, that's 56 cents per assembly, plus shipping and packaging materials.

I also created the 1.5" web size dominator, and did a layout with a mix of the 2" and 1.5" on the 12x12 sheet. Since I only have one sheet, I had to reserve some space for experimenting with the cutting power/speed. If I get the right parameters on the first try, there's room for another dominator.

Ha!! I didn't even think about the title....

Well, it got my attention. I was thinking Spider-Man had some new underwater arch enemy.

I'm not sure I understand what I'm looking at. Could something like this be used to hold a weight pocket on shoulder straps (approx 4lbs?) If so, I would be interested in a few for 2 inch webbing.

Looks like an interesting project. Would this be good for the standard straps on a BPW?

If you do an image search, most of the results are for military packs. But that was enough for me to come up with enough ideas for the webbing of my BPW. To a point that if I'm not careful, the assembly may resemble a Christmas tree.
