that setup on the right is pretty much exactly what my father had when he was scuba diving in Gloucester, MA in the 1960's
I have some of his gear but wish I still had the Voit regulator!

I'm tempted but I'm in the process of cleaning out the basement and closets. However my fathers regulator would be nice to have to remember him by.

The file name of the original picture indicates 1967 as the date and Cozumel as the location. I was under the impression that there were national laws back then about spearfishing with SCUBA. Or does that just apply to Europe?

I know of divers who used to spear fish with scuba all over the Caribbean in the 60's and 70's. I am not sure when the practice of using scuba for spear fishing was banned (it may still be acceptable in some countries in the Caribbean).

For tournaments and "sport" spear fishing, scuba was not allowed in the 70's and probably before that.

As @DanSinks mentioned, the line seems to be part of the speargun.

I can't really tell what the round thing actually is, but it seems to be attached to his knife on the right leg. That is just how it appears to me.
