Ive noticed anywhere but the U.S the apeks products are more budget friendly. Has anyone had any experience ordering from overseas? I noticed they even sell packages of the first and second stage with octo for the XL4. However I think I might as well splurge and go for the XL4+ due to the extra HP port for future just in case use.

check with the dealers first. There are strict export agreements with Aqualung. Most will not export as several have lost their dealerships over the years for sending parts to the US

I think if an overseas retailer did ship to you in the US, there would be an import tax or fee that closed much of that price gap. Aqualung US pays that on the imports, which is at least part of the reason for the price variance.
You will also not have Aqualung US warranty coverage, nor the free parts on bi-annual overhaul.

I bought a new XTX200 1st and 2nd from Italy a little over a year ago, no issues at all for 425 USD free shipping. I am not a warranty worrier but that may be the only hang up if it is a concern.

How did it work out with customs?

That is interesting. Most European vendors I have seen do not offer free shipping. That is what kills the deal unless you are buying in bulk.
