I own a Solus back up, the company has since shut down. The light was hardly used, built like a tank, magnetic collar on/off but has developed a flicker, it appears the LED has come loose in the head. The head unit is sealed but looks like it can be accessed from the glass end. Was wondering/hoping one of the light gurus would try to fix it for me, happy to pay, or offer any suggestions as to who might look at it for me, ULD or light monkey perhaps. Any help would be greatly appreciated, from memory it was about $300 so would love to have it running again. Cheers.

I'd try [http://budgetlightforum.com] if you don't get any good bites from this group. Lots of those people upgrade lights. Wouldn't be surprised if you could upgrade the LED to boot.

Thank you, I'll try them if I get no joy here. Appreciated. Cheers.

I don't like rechargeables on back ups.

I know given the fact it's not working properly makes my saying it's built like a tank somewhat ironic but I really would like to get it fixed if I can.
The DGX is a great back up, the rechargeable 18650 will hold forever since it’s twist on, I have two and they are truly bullet proof, only around $40. Lights with switches seem to fail often, the Xtar are looking promising, have two of them, 1100 and 1600 so far not a single issue. I feel modern lights are much better than old time bulb lights but once they give me trouble they go into dry only use and once they stop working they go to the dump.

Thanks Lex, I'll take a look. By the way I'm expecting the M1s in a week or so.

@buddhasummer why don't you like rechargeables in backups? There is a lot of currently irrelevant reasonings for not using them from 20 years ago, but like many things from GUE's curriculum, what was relevant up until 2010 is no longer relevant.

I doubt that either @Bobby or LM would bother with it. Way outside of their wheelhouse and you'd spend far more than the light is worth getting them to fix it.

The lens is likely held in and sealed by a pair of o-rings. One ahead and one behind. You'll have to press on the lens itself to compress the rear o-ring, then remove the front. It should then come out giving you access to the LED and board. No idea what is in there, but if you're committed to that light, like @fmerkel said, you'll be far better off upgrading it to a modern emitter. Candlepowerforum is another good resource

I hope you enjoy the M1, I’ve started using diaphragm Regs locally, the main reason is weight, the Apeks is good, a MK 17 and my favorite is a Zeagle Flathead 6, a total brick of satin chrome brass  before that one of my M1’s was my heavy weight, I think the M’s feel like titanium compared to the Zeagle and Apeks.

Exactly. The dislike for rechargeables in back-ups (read: must work when needed) is based on NiCads, which are long gone.
