Morning all.

I'm looking at getting an old double hose just for the fun of it. I'll do the service myself so... What are your recommendations for a first old double hose? Is there a particular style, brand, it model that I should look for?

Thanks for your input. Have a good day.

Single stage DH: Can't beat a USD Mistral.

Two stage DH: USD AquaMaster.

There are many choices out there but the above two are pretty easy to find and very easy to service. Plus VDH has all the parts. My 2psi. M

DA Aquamaster

Lots appear in pretty good shape on EBay for reasonable prices.

Vintagedoublehose.com has everything you will need to replace or upgrade.

They are pretty good breathers in the water compared to some of the other double hose brands.

Like what was said above, get on over to Vintage Double Hose, and begin to read.

IIRC, Bryan describes the DA Aquamaster as the Toyota Camry of DH regulators. You can go a long way with one....

I would look for a DA Aquamaster (DAAM) or a Royal Aquamaster (RAM). Both are fairly common, easy to service and any parts you may need are available. The later models with a long yoke are a better choice if you want to use a SPG with them, otherwise you need a tank with a working J valve and know how to use it. You can also upgrade either of them with several parts to improve their performance. I also suggest you find an old school back plate or get one of the new VDH ones as DH regs REQUIRE a proper back plate to perform at their best. There are a number of active DH divers both here and on VDH that are more than happy to help you along so please ask questions. DH regs take a little getting accustomed to and a different dive mindset but one you do, many of us prefer them to single hose regs. I have a number of regs and my Kraken is the one I prefer to use.

Where are you at in Flurda?

Good advice already given.
Beware, the vintage bug can bite hard.
3 dhs sets, triples, doubles etc in 2 yrs.
If you go full vintage ( no bc) you will find your skills will be improved.

Should we tell him? I'll give you a hint @Ghost95 . I found SB and VDH because I was looking for a place to sell my non-working DH. Now, I have three (all working) but some of the guys here have it much worse than I do.

Edit: Ghetto spilled the beans as I was typing.

Sometimes you can find a tank valve that has a port for an SPG. I'll see if I can find a picture.
