Hello, I am looking for ideas of places I could spend my honeymoon where my fiance and I can dive in January or Feburary to get out of the winter cold. My fiance has only been diving 2 summers this upcoming year, while I have been diving for 5 summers with advanced diving certification. The places we would prefer would be someplace safe for tourists.

Can you give us an approximate idea of your budget because January and February are high season in the tropics in many parts of the world and prices may be at their peak.

What types of things do you like do on vacation besides dive? Are you looking for some place with some topside attractions, restaurants, shopping, etc. or are you mostly interested in diving and relaxing?

Will you be traveling from North Dakota and did you have a specific part of the world in mind for your honeymoon?

Where have you dived before - you mentioned "summer" so I am guessing mostly local diving, correct?

Are you interested in shore diving or boat diving or both? What kind of sea life would you like to see, mostly coral reefs and colorful tropicals or are you more interested in sharks and larger animals?

It would be easier to give you advice that would fit your needs if we had more information.

BTW, congratulations on your upcoming marriage!

What is your budget, how long do you plan to go for, what else are you looking for, are you more interested in boat or shore diving, or both? Someplace mainstream, or off the beaten track?

In Jan-Feb you tend to get warmer water and better conditions further south.

In 2008 we did a trip around Borneo (Malaysian part), we ended with 4 diving days in Sipadan, but before that we spend 4 days in Lankayan - that was the most "honeymoon like" place we've ever dived! Small huts on a tiny island each with a hammock in front and directly access to the sea. Great snorkeling just a few steps into the sea and good diving as well.

Bonaire, Bonaire & Bonaire.....Did I say Bonaire.....:happywave:

Without really knowing what @Hannah Ness is looking for, I would think of Curacao before Bonaire as a Southern Caribbean honeymoon destination. It may be easier to get there from North Dakota and they have better beaches and a larger selection of topside attractions and activities.

My wife and I have been to Curacao 6 times over the past 5 years and to Bonaire twice over the past year. My wife is a non-diver. We have also been to most of the popular 'other' Caribbean islands. Both Bonaire and Curacao would be in our top 2 for a combined diving and everything else vacation. Note that they are both on the quiet side compared to Barbados, Antigua, St Martin, St Thomas, Cuba, Mexico, Dominican Rep, Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas. Yes, the beaches are better in Curacao, but Bonaire is more compact and everything is within a 10-15 minute drive with stuff to do. I'm sitting next to my wife watching For the People and her thumbs up vote is for Bonaire over Curacao. BTW - there are more direct flights out of Canada to Curacao and just one direct flight for Bonaire but we still vote for Bonaire first.

Eh, why not both.....You will find Curacao to be with a European (aka Dutch) flair, while Bonaire seems to be more Americanized but without the franchises if that makes sense. Either way you can't go wrong..... :):):)

@Hannah Ness

Ok, somewhere “safe for tourists”.

Any other criteria or should we continue with the babble?

Can't believe no one chimed in with this one yet: Anse Chastenet in St. Lucia is BOTH a quintessential honeymoon resort on a honeymoon island destination, AND a notable dive resort. Budget allowing of course...
This is a dive destination where I tell folks to NOT plan on diving all week - leave some quality time to explore the island.
There are multiple pricing options there, and the owners love to cater to divers. Get one of the hillside rooms if $$ allows.
