Wow.

Very sad news and it has thrown Galapagos Dive boats into disaraywith many people who were booked on the Majestic and others, frantically searching for spaces. Two new boats due to start next month are still not yet in the water and a 3rd is still awaiting the necessary work it requires to adapt it from a first class Naturalist cruise vessel to a dive boat, so understandably there are some concerns. If you are one of those looking for last minute spaces then please don't hesitate to contact us.

Thank goodness it didn’t happen at night. Sitting in a kanga in those waters waiting for assistance would not have been fun.

3:30 am isn’t any better.
Although the accident happened at night, It was well into the day by the time it actually sank. Photos in the article linked by @DiveTheGalapagos show people being rescued in the daylight.

Actually, the people you see in the Zodiacs are not divers. They're probably crew guarding the ship. When other ships have sunk, people tend to arrive and loot knowing regulations prohibit the owner from removing items prior to an official investigation. As ship owners always want to remove any fuel and environmental threats, theft is not the most damaging thing looters could do on a vulnerable ship.

It's my understanding all fuel was able to be removed from the ship prior to any spills.

This is very unfortunate.
I have to say that running aground before daylight and having to abandon ship is the BIGGEST DRAG, especially when you pay big bucks for a luxury vacation.
I experienced this NOT FUN adventure in March 2018 in Tubbataha 90 miles from any land mass in the middle of the Sulu Sea. Our ship was also a luxury, and very expensive yacht. So messed up. For our troubles we received a $100 gift certificate for a return trip. Ha! No thanks. I hope these unfortunate souls were offered better compensation.

They don't have insurance that would reimburse customers?
