Last week I had a situation where I used my regs/ tanks to fill a car tire. It was a PITA (an maybe not the smartest thing) to use a full regulator setup... so I figured I'll assemble a dedicated 'tire setup' for future use...

Anyways, I'm looking to get a first stage to make this happen... the main factor in what I buy is price... Brand/ age/ condition don't matter...

Nothing wrong with using a standard regulator setup to fill a tire, they sell tire valve attachments that pop right onto the LP inflator hose.

As far as cheap first stages goes, check Ebay you can find them in good working condition for under $30.

My desire to not use my 'real regs' had more to do with having to use them in muddy/ dirty conditions and trying to keep my 2nd and octo from falling into said mud...

I have all the other parts needed, actually the air chuck was a real life saver while diving on Bonaire... we had such a fast leak I had to stop every quarter mile to air up... just barely limping back to our rental...

I figured I'd see what a fellow ScubaBorder has before going on flea bay...

I use a US divers Deep Star that I picked up for free as it was "old unsafe junk" at the parts bin at a dive shop....

I'm looking to buy one, this is a classified listing...

Ebay is great for dive gear, new, used, questionable, etc. From a variety of sellers including the same ones selling here on SB and major distributors such as LeisurePro.

Dive Gear Express...$59.

Intended as a deco reg...low IP...120 PSI...so it's depth limited...depth compensating/flow by piston/open spring chamber...c/w OPV...

Great reg for its intended use...inexpensive...not ''cheap''...

Best...

Make friends with your LDS service bench person and see if they come across anything that's no longer suitable for diving. Preferably one of the type where you can quickly adjust the IP with just an allen wrench. I recently set one up like this with a button HP gauge to show tank pressure, and a 3-way manifold with an automotive-style quick-disconnect, OPV, and LP gauge to see output pressure. It's a little bulky in this config, and could probably be streamlined a little, but I wanted to see what I really would get out it. The OPV allows for depressurizing the reg even if there's no attachment connected.
