Grocery store? We have always gone to Mega in the past for peso's? Liquor stores? Again always used the one down near Mega- specifically looking for Don Julio 1942. Restaurants or bars along the way to downtown?. Some place to cool off as we walk into town. Sounds like it will be hot next week. It's been 2 years since our last visit, any new really good restaurants? I

The closest grocery store to the north is Chedruari, Scuba Club has a dive shop across the street form their hotel that has A/C you can stop in and browse. Going south there are some beach clubs and restaurants before the OXXO just before Casa Del Mar. There are tourist shops just south at the International pier. Google Maps is a good source.

Yes... I don't waste $ where $ need not be wasted so I download the latest Google map of Coz to my smartphone before every visit. It has everything I need to navigate without paying my carrier's (Verizon) "Welcome to Mexico" $5 per day coverage charge. Hotel WIFI covers all correspondence free of charge when I return to my accommodations. I've no interest in corresponding with anyone when I am out and about and am on vaca in Coz. I can always activate it with a touch of my finger but have yet to do so and invite all that crap into my vacation. There's a reason I chose to vaca in the 3rd world... Makes a great excuse for why you can't be reached!

If your phone is unlocked go to Mega & buy an AT&T package for the time you need. It's about $5.00 per week for unlimited calls to the US, Canada & Mexico, (price was consistent last trip 2 trips) I'm guessing that includes texting etc too but don't use those features so can't verify. There's a small desk poster showing the packages available.

Are you on an old plan? Verizon doesn't charge me for using talk, text, or data in Mexico.

You would have loved Cozumel in the 1980's. Making a phone call back to the US was a difficult and expensive endeavor, and if someone wanted to reach you from here while you were there it was ding nigh impossible. :D

My Verizon plans does, and for Canada, too. Europe is $10.00/day.

My wife and I stayed at the Palmar condos for half of our stay on our last visit. We ate once at the Sunset Bar just up the road (opposite of downtown from Blue Angel). I liked it and would recommend the 5 - 10 minute walk from Blue Angel.

Have you considered changing plans, or is there something in the old plan that you treasure?

I have about the cheapest plan there is with Verizon. The only way I can go cheaper is if I switch to Walmart's prepaid plan. My base is about $60/month (including taxes and fees) with 2 gigs of data. They tout a cheaper plan, but when I add everything it, it's about $85/month.
