I know this has been done to death on the forum, but I'm at a bit of a loss. I would like to add pockets to my setup to carry a dsmb, finger spool, and folding snorkel. I don't like clipping these items on as un-streamlined danglies, especially given that I would use them in emergencies only (I have never used any of these items outside of drills).

The forum favorite seems to be adding pockets to the wetsuit. That's fine, I can do that on my 7-mil at home, but I often rent wetsuits while traveling to warm-water destinations.

The forum 2nd favorite is pocket shorts, so I ordered the DGX neoprene pocket shorts. Even in size small, it's a ginormous piece of neoprene, which took over 4lbs of lead to sink in my bathtub. I'm not interested in adding 4 lbs of lead for neoprene that is NOT keeping me warm, so I'm sending them back.

The 3rd-place option seems to be adding pre-fab pockets to my BP/W harness. I'm a small guy, and there's just not a lot of real estate on that webbing - my bp/w already feels pretty "full" with a backup light and camera clipped to the chest D-rings, and a knife holster and two weight pouches on the belt. I could try to add a pocket, but any pocket big enough to hold a DSMB/spool/snorkel would, I expect, make my harness to crowded and clunky.

Is there another option I'm not thinking of? I would LOVE some pocket shorts in a non-buoyant stretchy material. Why would the manufacturers use be neoprene, rather than lycra or spandex or something? I just don't get it.

What’s you waist size and which weight pockets are you using? I’m in the 28” neighborhood and have plenty of space for all of the above. Your butt dring will happily stow the spool snd DMSB. The older DR 16lb weight pouches would likely help as they’re vertical. Snorkel isn’t the most convenient. Depending on the model, you might be able to roll one into a Scubapro/Pelagian weight pocket and store it on the waist. It’d likely fit on your butt d-ring as well if you elect to bungee tie and add a boltsnap to it.

Ditch the harness weight pockets, buy a rubber weight belt with hard lead, (which makes more sense anyway) and throw an $8 PDM pocket on your harness.

Interesting... actually, as I've gotten my weight dialed in, I'm only using 10 lbs now, and I've been thinking I might go entirely with trim pockets on the tank bands. Four trim pockets, two on each cam band with 2.5 lbs each. My rig is balanced and I can swim it up from depth with an empty BCD, so I think I'm ok without ditchable weight.

In that case, the pocket you linked to is appealing...and a pretty minor investment to give it a try.

Would it hang vertically on my waist webbing? The product page doesn't show how the attachment on the back is oriented.

See my previous post...I might try out the waist pocket and ditch my weight pockets.

I've tried putting the spool and DSMB on my butt d-ring, but REALLY didn't enjoy the feeling of them sitting on the backs of my thighs while in horizontal trim, bumping back and forth with each kick of the fins. Super annoying, for some reason.

Here's a couple of side sacks, DSMB and reel and epirb in one, DSMB, reel and mask the other
velcro opening at the bottom all clipped to strings

OTG thigh sack, straps removed eyelets in, hanging sideways

Yeah I use one of those thigh pockets and fill it with stuff I never use just to feel important
