Agreed with what's said above... likely you, or I, or 99% of the diving population wouldn't notice the difference if their 1st stage, when tuned properly and used in recreational depths.

The MK25 is liked by tech divers due to the fact it has a 5th port, coming off the bottom, this allows some different hose routing options that tech dives would take advantage of. Both regs would be fine for the diving you do... CA is not cold enough to cause issues.

As far as an octo goes, I use a R195. It's fine for me... save the money over the cost of a S600 and go out to a nice dinner, or better yet, go diving! :)

At any rate is sounds like you're learning a lot and enjoying the process!

Really enjoying this process of searching and learning more about diving equipments!
Maybe not for MK17, but one of the posts I've been reading mentioned that Scubapro recommended to not use MK25 with R reg/octos. There was no explanation on it.. wondering why.
I'm leaning towards MK17+A700. Diving in Iceland is one of my bucket list so

I have 5 sets because I dive caves and can have with me 4 tanks at any one time. I have one open water reg set up so that I don’t have to monkey with anything when I’m single tank diving. And they are all the same so that I can swap any part from any reg if there is ever a problem it also makes service easier as there is only one type of first stage and one type of second stage to service. Someone recommend the R190 and that is a great simple octo that I have used and would give a second vote for.

Ah, I see!
thanks for the advice!

I have 4 MK25 regs-ALL with R series Octos. No issues whatsoever. That “advice” is untrue.

The biggest downside to a MK17 is the cost of the parts kit. Currently it is >$40 vs $20 something for the MK25. That adds up pretty quickly.

Oh..! hmmm.. it's a hard decision to make...

Maybe for a multi-regulator owner... but with a 24 month inspection/rebuild service interval I think the cost of service is a minor issue.

The MK25EVO + A700 combination is an awesome combination and probably the best in the market. The MK25EVO first stage is a better first stage than the MK17 (the MK17 is still a great first stage) overall. I have MANY of the MK25 and MK17 for use in our dive school and for personal use. I service the MK25 and MK17 combinations every 2 - 3 years without any issues.

I'd recommend the MK25EVO + A700 combination but the MK17 is still a top of the line first stage.

Dive a MK25/A700 EVO and a MK25/A700. I would recommend either to almost anyone. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a MK25/S600 to almost anyone either. The only reason I wouldn't recommend would be for someone that needs the environmentally sealed MK17 first stage.

You would or wouldn't recommend the M25/A700 and s600??

I'm thinking about purchasing MK25EVO + A700.
I found a pretty good deal with an octopus included.

But one of the instructor I know mentioned that S600 also works well and that I don't really need to spend extra on buying the new A700. The cost difference is only ~ $80. What are your thoughts on this?

Also, the website I'm looking at seems to only have three things in the picture in the package. What kind of gauge (SPG) and a low pressure hose do I need? I'm new to buying my own equipments so I'd also appreciate if you can comment on other accessories I'd need when setting everything up!

Thanks!

What is the price with octopus? Also, which octopus?

You can PM me if you prefer. I can tell you if it is a good deal or not.
