Our sincerest condolences from the Ontario Underwater Council @alphakry, @nudisusie and all of Andy's family and friends.

When (and if) you're ready, if any of you could reach out to me or @heison from the OUC, it would be greatly appreciated.

Again, sorry for your loss. He had so many people hoping for the best from around the world.

It may not be medical issue. Rebreather system is more complicated than the open circuit system, additional non-medical accidents can happen [...]

"When diving a rebreather you see all of the above plus too much carbon dioxide and failure of the rebreather."
Increased WOB is common with high current diving, creating increased carbon dioxide.

With reading post about the issues surrounding rebeather diving is there not a system divers could use for tracking there location

I don't usually pay attention to Accidents and Incidents, but I just learned this is about Andy Phillips of Utila Dive Center! We don't usually associate him with Canada. I remember him from my time on Utila. I'll send a condolence over on the Condolences forum.

He seemed to time in the River frequently, although I am not aware of the connection. There's a fair bit of tech training goes on there, so perhaps that's the connection.

Lock 21 isn't normally considered to be anything more than a rec dive, but given the recently reported conditions there, I have to question the wisdom of diving there at this time.

His girlfriend lives in Montreal so when visiting her he dives there

Is there really still no report from the buddy?

The loss of one of the most prolific technical instructor trainers of the largest certification agency, on a rec dive, presents obviously broad safety concerns.

I really hope people don’t circle the wagons on this one.

I would not expect a report from the buddy. A friend of mine had a buddy die on a dive. I still don't know the details and I don't ask.

I do hope that eventually some lessons can be provided, but I think the family and friends of Andy need to finish grieving.
