I don't think the guy is just going to put the inflator on the tire and hold it there until it explodes.

Depends on how he cracks the valve. You know how fast air comes out of the valve, just needs seconds.

Normal shop compressors put out 100-150 PSI as a rule. IP is normally 140-150 PSI. It takes about the same time to fill a tire either way.

Yea, but we are talking 300 psi, not 100 psi.

Not sure how you got to 300 PSI.

Even at 300 PSI, it's not going to be an instantaneous thing. Even if you were to hold it on for the normal amount of time, the worst that would happen is that you'd have twice as much pressure gain as you expected. If you are topping the tire, that will likely be a few PSI. If you are filling it, it most likely won't burst off the rim even at 2X the usual fill pressure.

Think about the transient pressures that happen when you hit a pothole. Max fill pressure on my tires, IIRC, is about 50 PSI. Fill pressure for most passenger tires is about 32 PSI. At 64 PSI, my bet is that they'd stay put. That doesn't mean I'm going to run out and check. The only time I ever overfill tires is to seat them on the bead of a stubborn wheel.

I use an AL19 with an old 1st stage. I run three hoses off of it, one HP with an spg to monitor tank contents, one lp to a tire chuck and one lp to a blower nozzle to release pressure after I close the valve. It doubles as a blower for blowing dust and water out of the tire valve and other things.

You're not too far from me, depending on where in or around Albany you live. I probably have a yoke first stage I haven't thrown out that you can have for free. I can look later. PM me if interested.

Got one with a yoke valve. Bought it cheap at Tom's River to get the 2nd stages I wanted. Come get it and it's yours. PM for contact info.

Last week I had a situation where I used my regs/ tanks to fill a car tire. It was a PITA (an maybe not the smartest thing) to use a full regulator setup... so I figured I'll assemble a dedicated 'tire setup' for future use...

Anyways, I'm looking to get a first stage to make this happen... the main factor in what I buy is price... Brand/ age/ condition don't matter...
Sorry if this has been covered. @mello has a few cheap regulators for sale that will certainly fit your need.

Thanks everyone for the offers.

I was able to meet up with @TrimixToo and pick up a regulator in person and talk about diving for an hour or so...

So again, thanks everyone, and especially @TrimixToo!

Yep, free is hard to beat. Kudo's to @TrimixToo

Thanks.

I'm in "get it out of the garage if I don't need it" mode. I left too much dive gear in the dark for too long. You know what happens then. Pony bottles. Button gauges. They grow up and become LP112s and full-size SPGs with hoses. As noj3333 can attest, the garage is overstuffed. A lot of this stuff was cheap or free with something else I bought, like that yoke first stage. It and the console-style SPG that went with it came attached to two second stages I bought at Toms River to standardize my deco reg seconds.

I hate to throw useful stuff out. If you live within striking distance or can arrange pickup and I don't need or want it, it will be free or cheap.
