It’s been a while since I did it, but I’m pretty sure all you see is a new profile with no name (the profile name will be blank). Then you save it as a custom profile and assign it to C1. You won’t see any of the built in profiles until you restore them back.

But again, it’s been a while.

Lx10+ikelite + the inon wide is my next planned purchase - some quick questions: Are you happy with the housing? Quality of control buttons etc? Whats a good price for the housing? Some sample video clips would be nice!

Here are a couple examples of the LX10 with the INON wide, this is with the Nauticam housing but results should be similar:

This video is in HD (exported as 4K), but it’s purpose is to show how good the custom white balance is, no red filter or lights used:
This video is in 4K, colour corrected with arms and floats for stability. I’m not 100% happy with the level of stabilization in 4K so I may end of shooting 1080 (which has excellent stabilization). I don’t know that there is a compact available with the stabilization I’m looking for. It’s OK, just not great:
The HD quality is pretty good.

Some amazing colors you got without red filter. What depth was it mostly? That said is there a red filter stackable under the uwl-h100?

I think there is a red filter you can put on the outside of the UWL-h100 but I’m not sure which one. Those depths were between 30-90 feet, most were around 40-50 feet. The water was not super clear either (25-35 ft viz).

I was reviewing the product description for an LX10 housing and this is what is says

The LX10 camera presents some unique challenges to the housing designer – the aperture ring, aspect ratio dial, and on/off switch, in particular. Although this necessitates pre-setting these three controls when inserting or removing the camera... --snip--

Since I have yet to lay my hands on the camera, I'd like to understand - what are the practical limitations when using this cam underwater with an Ikelite or other brand housing (Do all housings provide the same functionality) ? It looks like

1. I need to choose the aperture before I put it in the housing and then cannot change it?
2. Keep it switched on from the word go in the boat itself and rely on power save mode or something?
3. Choose the Aspect ratio before hand and then cannot change it UW once inside the housing?

PS: Does the cam allow 3:2 video? IIRC the 4K recording is on a cropped sensor. What is the effective FOV with the UWI-H100 in 4K vs 1080p? Although I saw the video above, not sure its with the wide lens, looks cropped to me.. just want a number to benchmark...

I assume those limitations are for the Ikelite housing only as the nauticam has full control, I can’t speak to that. Your second part of the question, the 4K can’t be recorded in 3:2, only 16:9, with 36mm being the widest in 4K. Since you will get vignetting up to 32mm anyway with the UWL-h100. I worked it out that it’s around 80-84 FOV with the wet lens attached in 4K, it’s very comparable to my GoPro 3 Black in medium FOV.

The video above is with the UWL-h100 in 4K, so at it’s widest setting.

I decided to go with the LX10 after balancing all the features compared with the Sony RX100MV and the price of the camera...The Sony was $450 more and I couldn't justify the price for that. So after playing with it for a few days the answer to your questions - which I was concerned about after reading your message and were the first things I looked at in the shop - with the Nauticam housing (but Im sure the others are similar as there wouldn't be any other way to control these settings..

1. You must move the Aperture ring F11 ONLY to insert the camera in the housing, and the housing must be adjusted to F11. It is clearly marked inside the housing, and simple to spin ring around to F11. Drop the camera in and you have FULL control over aperture. It is only a reference point to start with as the Aperture ring is a physical manual adjustment.

2. To inset the camera the housing ON/OFF switch must be raised as the switch on the housing is 'captive'. Pull the housing switch up so the camera with 'clears' the physical switch on the camera, push the housing switch down to hold the ON/Off in place and you have full control over power. This is also a physical switch, rather than electronic push button.

3: Aspect Ratio can be adjusted underwater, you just need to program a button or the Quick Menu to allow access to that setting.

With this in mind, have a look at the interior photos of the housings and you will see what you are looking for.

I would say that CineD isn’t really necessary, but I have no evidence to back it up.

As for a red filter, I can get better, more natural colours without one. BUT you have to do a bit of work in post to get there. With a red filter it will look better out of the camera, however I can never get it to look as good in post. there are weird colour casts with the one I was using that I couldn’t get rid of.
