@Graeme Fraser how long do the o rings last before they need replacing in your experience? (Wondering how many I should buy / keep in my save a dive kit)

It's quite thick and isn't being pushed and pulled regularly so should last at least a couple of seasons. Worst that can happen is it breaks and the D ring sits flat. No biggy and just replace at leisure. Glad to be of service

I was shown a method similar to the o-ring but also place a epdm loop (for two inch webbing like you would on a DIR harness) over top of the o-ring as well. It keeps it orientated correctly. My d-ring was difficult to get to but adding these two parts made it much easier to clip to.

OR, you could clamp the d ring in a vice...it will be tricky to position because you can't remove it from the pocket but it can be done, then smack it a few times with rubber mallet to make bent d ring that does not sit flat.

My daughters BP from Hog came with straight d-rings. We put everything together as is and she eventually wanted bent d-rings. We removed the waist d rings and secured them in the bench vice but decided not to remove the shoulder d rings and instead just pulled them loose form the slide and clamped them and whacked them. A few seconds of work on each and she had what she wanted.

Is the epdm loop any different than a bicycle tire cut in pieces?

I thought about doing that, but if I messed up it would bother me. If they weren't perfect it would bother me....a little ocd I think (w/scuba stuff anyway).

I plan to take one up to the hardware store and see if I can find a good o ring that fits the bill. I can always switch to bungee if that doesn't work, maybe even bicycle tube.

I don't like gloves, but they're a necessity in cold water. This will make my clipping / un-clipping soooooo much better. It was irritating the other day, not that it couldn't be done, but it took too much focus on the bolt snap (for me anyway). I'd go so far as to compare it to rubber straps on fins. Sure you can, but why would you when you can dive with springs and make life easier?

I'll report back what I end up with. Thanks to all who responded, lots of wisdom on this site.

Not much difference other material of construction, but I believe it lasts longer. If you have a choice try 3" strip and work back to thinner.

I'm not sure what I was thinking when I said 3". I was thinking wider than mine and had 2" webbing on the brain. Mine is about 0.5" wide and would start a little wider...maybe 0.75" and work back.
