SW Cloud seems to be needing some user-input.

I've complied requests (features and fixes) from a couple of recent threads to help try and focus things.

I'm a very 'light' SWC user and never used SW Desktop as a Teric was my first SW computer. I've not used other dive software (and my 'need' for that detail is low) hence my input is limited, but my desire (as a SW fan) is to see SWC be as respected as their computers are.

Please constructively contribute.

The shopping list:

To take the best features from SW Desktop. What are these?

To borrow the best features from other dive software. What are these?

To display the battery voltage info for the AI transmitter. Post 5 below from @CWK

To have the ability to turn SWC into a Stand Alone mode (with no dive or user data shared with the 'cloud'/external server). Even the Sync Button is pushed, it asks the user to alter the 'Stand Alone' mode first. Reason: for those that don't want to share any of their dive data with an external server/cloud. Shearwater Desktop vs Shearwater Cloud <-post #7 @TrimixToo

problem of some OC dives being reported as CC. - Shearwater Desktop vs Shearwater Cloud <-post #4 @TerryC

ability to print black font / what background: Shearwater Desktop vs Shearwater Cloud <-- post #7 @rsingler Perhaps have a dark mode / light (white) mode toggle switch. Post #1 @FlyinV

Improved font clarity / dd various font (and background colour) options.

Speed of file transfers: "Horribly slow on both Android and and PC importing, syncing, or loading my database of several hundred dives. Minutes of waiting." Shearwater Desktop vs Shearwater Cloud <-- post #8 @davehicks - isn't this a first time issue. then after that it's just the marginal # of dives?

@davehicks "I have never been able to sync and download dives from my Predators and Petrel2 comp. Both Android and PC version will connect the computer but hang or error out attempting to transfer."

Ability to manually check for updates Shearwater Desktop vs Shearwater Cloud <post 16 @flyingv

Ability to set SWC to auto-sync upon opening / launching. Shearwater Desktop vs Shearwater Cloud post #28 @Aaron Harmon

Shearwater Desktop vs Shearwater Cloud fix: "entering dive notes is weird in that it is a tiny box on the side and you have to scroll down as you are writing to see what is being typed." Shearwater Desktop vs Shearwater Cloud post #31 @Motoman4540 and Love me some Shearwater...but Cloud sucks

Default / set as a preference to the same 'gear/exuipment input' to every [subsequent] dive if gear is previously entered [until it's not entered / backspaced / deleted]. Shearwater Desktop vs Shearwater Cloud post #31 @Motoman4540

Ability to add a photo video into a Dive. Shearwater Desktop vs Shearwater Cloud post #31 @Motoman4540 - preferably with all metadata (inc GPS) attached.

Minor thing: to narrow the implicit y-axis scale for temperature (a few degrees change still looks like a straight line) - me.

To graph ascent and descent rates on chart. me.

Fix: expanding the graph too much eliminates the summary box when the graph is clicked. - me

To have SurfGF on chart- it's coming - me.

On iPhone, to be able to see and select all the graph options / selections (currently only 6 out of 9 are visible)

To be able to chart and export certain data types across multiple dives. e.g. how has my SAC looked over time - me.

To be able to enter tank data (and easily copy it across dives) so we can change from bar/min <-> =litres/min. (at surface pressure). New Teric and nitpicking @oceancurrent post76

SWC still uses a fair bit of CPU despite it doing nothing. Seems to be an old 'issue': - me. Cloud Desktop runs HOT on MacBook Pro . . . .

Sorry, but Shearwater should not be in the log s/w business, stick to hardware and firmware or they should start from ground zero and completely redesign the log apps. While I only know the MacOS and iOS versions, IMHO they are the worse things I’ve seen in ages. I’ll stick with MacDive for feature, usability, developer responsiveness, and overall design.

I don't think everyone feels Shearwater Cloud is terrible. It works fine for me and captures all the info I need. I will be interested to see how people answer the first two questions under the "shopping list" in the original post.

SW could partially go your suggested route and outsource to/engage with 3rd c/p providers like MacDive and re-focus their resources to making great computers. I'm surprised a Terdix hasn't yet been released.

Once the above wish list is completed, SW might look at it all and think it's in the 'let's re-focus' bucket.

However, at the moment, the reality is they are in the dive log business and SWC works 'adequately' for some (in most/some ways).

Are there a few+ features of MacDive that spring to your mind that you could share?

From looking at MacDive's website there's a whole host of features: aquatic life detail, gear management, diving certificate details, ability to sort by country / specific dive site.

If a diver is into underwater photography (or even casually uses a camera etc) it's a compelling app : MacDive

I don't know how it maps one's dive sites? Is it via GPS from phone or camera?
And I don't know how it tags specific photos at specific depths - however it does it, it's pretty cool.

Sharing data with DAN is pretty cool too.

I wonder if SWC's goal is to develop these extra features or just to focus on core diving stats or both? Perhaps @Shearwater Cloud might chime in?

I wish we had the option to backup to iCloud (for IOS version) or Dropbox, like with MacDive.

You can track GPS on the mobile app, and you can enter coordinates in the desktop version. The photo additions count on the time on your camera and your dive computer being the same.
I have been using Mac-Dive since early 2014 and it is fantastic.

Guess you missed the thread that says otherwise. Many of us hate cloud. They just need to make cloud emulate a better version of desktop and they’ll be good. Or better yet, make all computers compatible with desktop.
