so I did my idc online and was told by the staff instuctor that it makes no difference and doesn't count?
So it's apparently a waste of money??

Maybe they don't accept it as a shop and will require you to sit through their academics in it's entirety, but it does count.
I would ask for clarification. Is it their requirement or show you the standard.

The school just wants you to pass, and my IDC was the same way. Since I was a Divemaster already, at the time of my IDC, I theoretically didn't have to do the first part of their course, which was Divemaster training. But they insisted I audit it anyway, tho' they didn't charge me.

EDIT: Dive Theory Online, gets you out of the Dive Theory section of the IDC, tho.

Did you talk the shop before you did the online stuff?

Divemasters need to complete the full course - there is no option for skipping the first part as a DM, and you must be a DM before starting the IDC...

Not quite - it counts as the theory exams in the IDC, not the IE. All exams must be passed under exam conditions at the IE.

Can't imagine anything reducing the requirement to have a course director present at an IDC. Making course directors is a very big cash cow for FADI and it would seriously affect their bottom line if the requirement for new course directors dried up.

Wow, you can actually take PADI's IDC online? Do you have to commit to a shop IDC before you do? I would just love the information. How much was it?

IDC eLearning SRP is $402. No, I don't know what all it covers and how/where it meshes with the remainder of the IDC coursework. Wasn't available when I took my IDC.

Dive Theory eLearning (Dive Masters) SRP is $140. Aside from teaching the required content, it replaces half of the DM final exam. Learning the same content from book reading necessitates taking that other half of the exam, too.

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is made up of two parts – the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most dive professionals complete the entire IDC and go on to attend an Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step to earn a PADI Instructor certification.

Successfully completing just the AI course results in a PADI Assistant Instructor qualification. When an AI is ready to progress, attending an OWSI program allows entry into an IE to earn a full PADI Instructor rating.

Dive professionals who hold an instructor rating with another diver training organization may be eligible to enroll directly in the OWSI program. This recognizes prior instructor training and provides a path to become a PADI Instructor.

A PADI Divemaster who has been a certified diver for six months may enroll in the PADI Instructor Development Course. You also need:

You also need to be an Emergency First Response Instructor, but you can earn this rating during your instructor training
