I've never seen that much discount for RT. If anything, it's usually been maybe $20 less. I've never found it worth the hassle and risk. You could lose the ticket. Or you could arrive 10 minutes before the *other* ferry departs but an hour and 10 minutes before your ferry departs. That would be frustrating.

Or what happened to me the entire ferry was reserved for cruise ship passengers, so I had to wait 90 minutes for the next ferry.

Wow. Money talks, I guess. Were even local residents turned away?

Edit: looks like they both are running every hour so the issue of having to wait an extra hour is resolved, at least for now. Used to they would each run every other hour for the most part.

Ultramar website lists $400RT ($22) or $220 ($12) one way. Winjet site doesn't show RT fares, just $10 each way (or $8 if you buy online). At 18:1 that makes Winjet several dollars cheaper.

Sure there's a price difference, but does WinJet have a really bad house band playing for tips? (*I jest. Those guys seem perfectly nice and I usually throw a handful of pesos in their tip jar)

As far as I can tell. The other ferry was available, but I had a round trip ticket.

Warning:

Winjet has a few very slow ferries.
Last crossing took over 1 hour 15 minutes.
We left at the same time as the Ultramar.
I don't know how to tell the difference between the fast and the slow boats, but even if I did, you can't see which boat you will be on from the ticket booths.

I've been taking Winjet/Mexico Waterjet ferries between Coz/PDC for 3+ years and have never had one take over an hour. They usually depart around 7 minutes past the hour and dock around 45 minutes past the hour.

It sounds like the ferry you were on had mechanical issues.

We've been taking the ferries for 12 years.
We've never had a trip lasting that long.
In fact, the longest trip was on a Barcos Caribe boat.

Agree with horn34's speculation.
