I'll risk reviving an old thread with a question, is anyone else having trouble with the knob lock system on the Olympus pt-058 housing?

My buddy loves her TG-5 but its often a struggle to open the housing. We know about the small small 'lock' slider, it works just fine. The 'main' slider is what I am talking about.

We are pretty careful to rinse our gear post dive. Looking at the knob it's what I would call a semi-sealed design and think might not get a good rinse inside. I've soaked it and even used a water flosser on low pressure to flush it. The big slider does move now, allowing the knob to turn and unlock the housing. But it feels reluctant (not gritty, but a little tough to slide), if my fingers were damp with sweat I probably couldn't move that slider

I hesitate to try and open the knob assembly, it is semi-sealed closed using at least two very tiny screws. I am instead considering trying to get a drop of food grade silicone in there to lubricate the mechanism. I'm worried that might attract grit.

Anyone have other ideas and input? And, she's tried contacting Olympus twice now, but they have not responded.

I have the tg4 with oly housing and often have issues sliding the latch in order to turn the knob to open the housing on it too. I air dry the housing and let it sit for a while before opening it...sometimes that works and other times I just have to take the housing off the tray and play with it to get it to open. Just got used to it being like that.

No special lens or port. Just the regular TG-5 in an ikelite housing. (Plus some patience and a lot of "throw away" shots that didn't work)
First of all, that you did those under/overs without a port is INSANE! They're hard enough to do *with* a dome port!

Second question - I also have an Ikelite housing. What tray/arm/flash set up do you have?

Hey there! Sorry for the late reply, I haven't logged into SB in quite a while!

I have an Ikelite ball and arm tray setup. It was quite a pretty penny, but I like it a lot! For a flash, I have an Ikelite DS-51.

We finally tried using a syringe ti flush the sliders with fw. Works like a charm! No more sticking.
