Wait a second....the Ratio has GPS? Like I can follow it back to where the hell I came from kinda GPS? That may seal the deal!!! Although trying to figure out if it comes with a transmitter or not.

shut the front door. So the dive computer can log exact dive spots with gps also? Dude..... no joke thats kinda cool

Awesome input so far from everyone!!! Thanks!!! In regards to a used computer....is that an ok thing to get used?

I have bought about 10 used computers used (9 Suunto + 1 Shearwater). Some I still use, exactly one died after 4 yrs and the others are still in use by folks who bought them from me. I'm not likely to ever buy new again; too many big spenders that buy everything under the sun sell it for 50-90% 6-18 months later.

I’m selling a shearwater predator that I haven’t posted yet for $300. Good price, better screen than the new shearwaters, and will last years and scale able to whatever diving you end up doing

That's a great price. If it were me, the computer seach would have just ended. I already have one, but I paid 480 used :-(

GPS will work on the surface. Does nothing underwater. If you get lost underwater and need GPS to get back you have to surface, lock onto GPS signals again, get a distance and vector, go that way. Go back underwater and you had better have made good notes as GPS still does not work underwater.

Ahhhhh...well that changes things a bit then. I was trying to figure out how the hell that worked at 60'. I shall keep researching then

Sure is, as long as it works of course. As long as it isn't beat to heck or an obsolete model it should be fine. Often (very often) you'll see used computers for sale for about 50% of retail or less. Usually it's someone who bought a bunch of gear when they got certified and then stopped diving shortly afterward.

its' good for keeping track of where you splashed at. I often forget to write down the name of the site some captain took me too. With the gps data it's easy to match the site to a name with scuba earth on divebuddy.com.

Ratio does do one thing that's totally annoying. They "move" the buttons on you in various menus. Like the "back" button changes depending on where you are. There's some logic to it but it's far from intuitive. I do like that they're mechanical buttons vs the tappy tap tap things that my shearwater petrel had. Those were kind of frustrating at times.

Other than the counter intuitive button mapping, great computer. Oh. One more thing, Ratio does not have removable batteries. The battery lasts a LONG time, but still that worries me. Proprietary charging cable, too. Otherwise, a lot like shearwater but with extra features. For me, GPS and more than 2 transmitters were a factor. There's a lot more unusual features than that, but those were the ones I wanted from it.

Pretty neat. Though to figure out and mark dive spots...I'll be the captain and can mark it on my boat GPS :) It really seems like an awesome computer, but a bit higher in the price range I was pondering. When I thought it had underwater GPS...I was already trying to figure all the current toys I need to sell to fund it lol. I'm now thinking maybe the Scubapro G2 if I don't find something in a better deal used, which I haven't ruled out either. Found some Luna's for about $350 on Fleabay. I'm going to dive a few times with me current for now so I can make the decision and get what I really want.

Sorry, I can't read all the posts. Simple to me-- I dive almost always 20-30'--sometimes 40'-- never take my computer. Just one more thing to rinse properly, worry about flooding, and properly care for. If you do dive deeper--even to say 100'--and it's a square profile, you don't NEED a computer (though I will take mine, in addition to the analog stuff)--people did this for decades. Multi-Level diving means you really need the computer or you will be extremely limited with bottom time using tables.
