SO the 09 * 04 + stamp is below the rusty stamp (hydro stamp) it is under the paint.

The rusty stamp says 1 03/04 19.
January 2019 is current but not plus rated
the 03/04 in the middle is the code for the hydro shop

. . .
The rusty stamp says 1 03/04 19.

So it was last hydro tested in January 2019. Is there a plus sign next to it?

edit: I'm gonna stop replying because it's duplicative of what others are doing such a great job of explaining while I'm typing. :)

So, the most recent hydro was January of 2019, the 03/04 is the facility designation..

Since it does not have a + after it, the tank "should" only be filled to 2400, so you basically no longer have a "85"...

I'm not saying anything further...

@CaveSloth
You say you had a hydro last year; if so, there should be a marking on the tank somewhere of XX 18, indicating month XX and year 2018. If that stamping has a + on it, you are plus rated and good for 2640. With the info you are doling out piece by piece it seems you had hydros in 2003, 2004, and 2019, which makes no sense.
Are you sure it was a hydro last year, or was it a visual inspection? is there a sticker on the tank? What date is marked on it?

I just want to now exactly how much air my tanks hold and I am perhaps mistakenly under the assumption that we haven't correctly determined that yet.

Terrific; the picture help. Tank born in 2004; hydroed again in 2011 and 2019. No plus rating since the original.

Are you sure these are 85s? You say the diameter is 7 inches (178 mm) and WP 184 bars, then the Faber specs suggest a 10 liter tank.....which holds 1840 liters at working pressure, or 65 cuft. If the diameter is 7.25 inches (184 mm) then the Faber specs suggest a 11.9 liter tank, meaning 2190 liters at WP, or 77 cuft. So maybe the diameter is 7.25 inches, not 7 inches?

Does the + rating mean something regarding how much air is in the tank at a specific PSI? In other words, does a + rated tank hold more air at a given PSI than a non-plus rated tank?

Why is there a plus sign underneath the hydro stamp?
