Heading to Bonaire in October. Have never dived Klein Bonaire. Any idea how to get tanks and dive gear to Klein Bonarie to do 4 or so shore dives? Bonaire boat rentals evidently prohibit dive equipment on rentals. Taxi service prohibits dive equipment as well. Is there a service that someone knows about that will drop us off in the morning and pick us up in the late afternoon.

Also how are the dive sites on Klein Bonaire marked? I heard that the painted yellow rocks are not located there. Thanks for the advise. S

You sign up with one of the dive ops to take you there on their dive boat and you dive from the boat. Bonaire is not 100% shore diving--maybe "only" 98%. There are some sites, such as on Klein Bonaire, that are almost always done as boat dives, not shore dives.

one really large capacity scooter.... :rofl3:

^^This^^
Klein is part of the Bonaire Marine Park, and is not designated as a shore-diving site.

It has some really good dives. Sign up with some operator and go there for a boat dive or two.

The stats in the post above are not quite right. There are 61 open BMP sites on Bonaire itself, with another 23 open on Klein. Of the 61, 52 are designated as shore dives. None are shore dives on Klein. So, BMP has 84 sites currently open, of which just 52 are shore dives. So Bonaire is 62% shore diving.....

The non-shore diving sites on Bonaire proper are Carel's Vision, La Dania's Leap, Rappel, Bloodlet, Country Garden, Bon Bini na Kas, Barkadera, Small Wall, and Chez Hines. All but the last on this list are to the north, and all ard good dives, some very good.

Sure, Bonaire is great for shore diving, but it is silly to go there and limit yourself to shore diving only and thus miss some of the best sites available, like Rappel and Country Garden and much of Klein Bonaire.

I stand corrected! :) I do tend to think of Bonaire as almost exclusively shore diving, because if you don't count Klein Bonaire, that's 85% shore dive sites. And now and then you'll hear someone brag how they managed to make a shore dive out of such and such dive site that's labeled as a boat dive site.

Buddy Dive offers scooter dives to Klein. After years of trying, we may actually get to do it this year. Not really sure how it works. Maybe there and back on the surface and then some sites on Klein. If you did it underwater, say, 15 feet, you might need two tanks to do a meaningful dive once you reached Klein.

The scooters are suppose to be tec grade with 2-3 hours of endurance.

@Ministryofgiraffes , the mostly-red one could be used as Bonaire's flag--just flip it horizontally. Fascinating composition.

thanks...i love that the little yellow motor showed up just at the right time to make the shot :)

it's small consolation after my 2 x harddrives died when a bellboy in miami dropped my case down a flight of stairs and i lots a couple thousand photos...frogfish, daytime octos, baitballs etc.etc...
