My personal system is that the go-pro is on an extendible pole. The pole is fixed to a boltsnap (currently by metal ring but thinking about either line or a zip tie) and also has a loop with a spring toggle for my wrist. For entry and exit or if I am not needing it for a section of the dive, it gets clipped to my waist D ring. In use, the loop gets put round my wrist and tightened.

That ensures that, should I find my self or my buddy in a SHTF moment, I can immediately let go of the pole and do what needs to be done or spend a max of 5 secs clipping it off.

Thread a cord through those holes (preferably bungee), fasten it with a knot, make a loop at the other end. Let the cam dangle off your wrist. Simple. Easily replaceable. Field serviceable. Hand-held cam is decently stable but be carefull with those fingers. It is quite easy to push them into picture...

Head mounted cam would be more stable, but I can guess you're not into diving helmets :D

I have never seen head mounted cam footage to be anything like stable.

The best way is to keep it in your hand.

I lost a $700 compact rig in Playa del Carmen by not having it clipped, and just having a lanyard loosely on my wrist. I got massively distracted because I suddenly found myself with an uncontrollable free flow of my regulator, at the same time that a bull shark appeared (!). And my 14 year old daughter was diving with me. While I sorted all of that out, the lanyard came off my wrist, and I didn’t realize it. Never found the camera. If I’d had it clipped to the BCD it wouldn’t have gone anywhere. Expensive lesson.
