Teric AI vs. Perdix AI?

I have both the teric and perdix. And the petrel 1 and petrel 2 and nerd but that’s just for my ccr. I like the teric for wetsuit diving when I’m traveling best. I can use it as a watch and for a little free diving as well as a kickass dive computer. I use the perdix to back it up for cave diving when I’m OC.

In free diving mode I’m just a noob. But I liked the 2 minute interval it set after every time I surfaced.

I haven’t used the transmitters for sidemount or ccr previously but will in the future. I had no issues reading the pressure with 1 transmitter for single tank oc diving.

I have friends who dive with 2 perdixes I don’t know anyone who dives with 2 terics.

1. I chose Perdix because slightly cheaper and slightly larger display (important for my IT-eyes). Display-size may be a non-issue if you still have good vision and/or appropriate corrective lenses. I was also able to look at a Perdix prior to purchase (several of my dive buddies have them). Finally I preferred a common (AA) user-replaceable battery over built-in. I use rechargeable AA's in mine but always have a backup battery in my kit.

2. Subsurface supports the Shearwater computers. I don't have experience with MacDive.

Personally I have had a LOT of issues to varying degrees downloading to both the official apps as well as Subsurface on several devices (PCs with Windows and Linux, and Android phone). Basically, YMMV. It seems it's more an issue of hardware compatibility rather than software. I recently bought a new Android Tablet and it seemed to work ok with it (only used it once so far).

One thing seems to be that the Shearwater computers don't like to be connected to different devices and "remember" the last device. So if you try to connect it to new device it struggles, especially if the old device is nearby.

Question: Since both devices allow you to customize the screen layout, I am wondering that since Perdix has the larger screen, does it allow you to display more information on the screen at one time compared to the Teric or do both have the exact same limits on the amount of information and it is just size and clarity of the screen that are different?

The Perdix has more 'spare space' on the screen then the Teric. .... The manuals / web has many pictures of each screen.

I would use for both OC Rec & OC Tec. Doing only OC Rec right now. There are of course some required things I would want to see and I know that will fit on the display. But then there are things that are not critical, but would be useful at times and then just nice-to-haves - because I am a data hound and just like looking at data. I am the same way when I run with my Garmin tri-athlete watch

p.21 of the Teric manual lists the options you can display and your list is all there.

just my 2c, you might want SurfGF and you SAC ... but you can only select three options to display on the home screen (Standard).

The Info Screens (currently not configurable, they're pre-set & scrollable only) have other info ... listed on p.16 of the Teric's manual.

I have Teric and petrels. Display is much better in Teric. 1 find 4 buttons easier to use than 2, even with dry gloves with thick under gloves. Work nicely with JJ-ccr and Ai(2 transmitters), doesn't drop connections. Only bad thing is that it scratches easier and scracthes (metal part) show more than petrel. But i think it just shows "usage" and doesn't bother me. I would go for teric, I have used perdix before

Nope. They don't seem to pre-announce ... it just is launched / sold like hot-cakes. One is 'overdue'.

It has been a year in a half. If you discount the Perdix AI release, the Perdix is almost four years old. A refresh with a better screen, and perhaps more options for screen setup would be a no brainer. Adding in things like being able to monitor more than two transmitters, and a sidemount mode that properly calculates GTR/SAC across two transmitters would be awesome. Along with other features like GPS or EXT for CCR.

You just noted what I'd consider a desirable feature. I'm told GPS signals don't work underwater, hence we don't have 'Garmin' reef maps to lead us around. Okay. But some dive log software will take GPS coordinates and put them on a map in your log. But active GPS functioning drains battery life faster.

So what if when you're topside and turn the thing on/wake from sleep/etc..., it took a GPS reading, perhaps at sporadic intervals, then when it got wet automatically shut off the GPS function to save battery, came back on briefly to log a new reading once you were out of the water after the dive, and shortly turned it back off (interesting to see how far a shore or drift dive went). Just a thought in case the Shearwater folks are reading this thread.

Maybe this wouldn't be of broader interest, but a Teric or Perdix AI with that option would be nice.

For those finding this thread later, both my wife and I dive both the Teric and the Perdix. I seldom look at the Perdix. The Teric screen is excellent and the colors on the display help me to process all the different info quickly at a glance. I was surprised to find out my wife mostly looks at the Perdix. I believe based on our discussion that it relates to how her brain processes info compared to mine.

Both computers are excellent and I will love it when they implement a sidemount mode for sac calculation. In the meantime, I use the gas used in each tank and calculate the average and then manually input that into my log software(macdive) and tell it I'm diving doubles. That gives me the sac in volume for the total dive but not for segments of the dive. I'd like to be able to highlight parts of the dive for better planning my gas needs on future dives.
