you have one week to burn? south leyte is doable - unless the flight schedule changes (or it is a tueday or thursday) you can leave maasin on the 9.30 weesam fast ferry and be in puerto princesa well before the sun goes down.

Thanks. This was great advice and I'm glad I took it. The Weesam ferry and the whole getting there was a grand adventure-- talk about off the grid! The boat diving was good but the most impressive dives were the night dive at the pier and a beach dive about 15 minutes north from Peters Dive Resort. Some of the prettiest coral gardens I've ever seen and the viz must have been 200'. Perfect!

I have visited quite a few places in the Philippines but still didn't get to Padre Burgos.
Everybody tends to say it really worths the effort it takes to go there.
The pier is supposed to be world-class night dive and this is the main reason I want to go there. This and Napantao Marine Sanctuary.

There is no excuse not to dive Padre Bugos.
It is just a bit time consuming on getting there but the reward is GREAT.
Its remoteness is its saving grace from mass tourism eg. Alona Beach.

It's even more difficult now, the weesam no longer runs. Options are the slow cokaliong ferry to Maasin, 3x\week, or the daily "fast" ferry to Hilongos. I'm hoping that ferries will be added as the season approaches and will add a thread re: travel options. Centrals has it right, the challenge getting here keeps the casual riff raff away and the diving is better because of it.

Why not flying to Tacloban then get a public bus or a private transportation, depending on your budget?
Doesn't seem that hard to me. I actually plan to do it soon.

If it was not the super typhoon Haiyan(Yolanda), very few people outside Philippines would had heard Tacloban.

Except for people who are genuinely interested in diving at Padre Burgos and who checked what is the most convenient way to go there.

Keeping up with the Joneses!
A lot of questions on LoB to Raja Ampat but the Homestay option rarely got a mentioned.
