I just picked up a new used tank. There are some stickers and gummy residue from others that I want to clean up. What recommended safe way to go about getting them all off? simple green? oops? wd40?

Heat gun.

The very last of the residue can be removed with acetone (after the heat gun is put away and the tank is cool).

Razor blade. You’ll probably find that you can scrape it off more readily than you can remove it chemically.
I tried a plastic scraper, I didn't want to go using a razor balde and accidentally get into the galvanizing.

so no issues with heat like on al? Its mostly the gummy stuff that is a pain to remove and I didnt want to use a chemical that will react with the tank coating and create a weird reaction. So acetone is ok.

That's what I use on my PST galvanized cylinders.

No damage from heat at any temperature you're likely to achieve with a heat gun. Acetone doesn't react with the galvanizing.

A wood scraper will not melt and will not damage the metal.

I've recently had good luck with a pressure washer.
Different stickers use different adhesives, so what works well on one sticker may not work well on another.

I used Goo Gone for this purpose on painted steel tanks and it worked great. Razor to help removes the stickers. Goo Gone and a sponge to remove the sticky residue.
This is what ultimately worked best for me.
