Yep, another harness question.

An 18 wing is too small if you dive in the winter in Florida (in my opinion)
Well at this point I don’t own anything thicker than a rash guard. I thought I’ve seen a few members say they had no issues with a 3mm using the 18?

I appreciate the reply and tips. All the gear I ordered arrived today. I also went over to DGX and picked up some dgx trim pockets, dive rite 2” crotch strap and some bungee wraps to help tie down anything I clip on I’ll post pics a little later tonight of everything I have so far. At this point it seems I just need my wing. Just torn between going with the vdh 18 or the dgx 30 for my first wing.
You sound like you are having the exact dillema I had when I bought my stuff lol.

In the end it ended up more between the VDH 18 and 35. I opted to go for the 35 for a more "all-in-one" approach. I am going to be primarily doing warm water diving in a 3mm full suit, but in case I ever want to do colder water, I am going to be okay with the wing.

I saw comparison pictures between the 18 and 35 next to each other, and the difference in size was VERY small. The pics were of it deflated. I figured for the most part I will have it deflated so the small extra size did not bother me at all. I think it's because the bungee cord on it that "shrinks" it when it's deflated.

I have used my full setup for 2 dives in the ocean (and 2 pool sessions) and loved every second of it. Either way you are going to be happy with your choice.

EDIT:

Here is a post from a comparison thread that shows the 18 and 35 inflated. Even in that pic, it is very hard for me to even tell a difference.

Requesting some wing pics for comparison purposes

Yeah but in Feb or March, you are not going to be using a 3 mm suit, unless you are pretty unusual. Also if you ever want to collect lobsters (which are heavy) you definitely do not want an 18. Do whatever you like, but the little added capacity is going to be sorely missed (if/when) you need it. A 30 is small and compact.

ideally I was planning to have a vdh 18 and the dgx 30. So it became more about what would be the first wing. The dgx May take the cake for first since it gives me more flexibility

Updated pic.

I'd probably go with a 30 to start as it is universal (what I did), then if you want to try a small (travel or specifically warm water), the 18... My home diving (cold water) is always in the 30, and the 18 goes on trips...

I only see one cam strap in your picture...is your plan to use only 1?

It’s 2 dgx stainless bands. I just have them together in the picture.
