Moved to my 3mm suit yesterday, with a 3mm hooded vest :)

The 3mm hooded vest proved to be a wise one as it was still 23C at the bottom but the top 8m was like soup.

Couple of seahorses spotted on Deep Reef (29m), as well as slipper lobsters, cuttlefish and a massive shoal of mackerel from around 16m to 8m just below the thermocline.

No nudis on this dive, which was a bit disappointing but lots of shrimp looking for something to clean.

The second dive at Car Cemetery 2 (21m) was totally different, although still 23C at the bottom. I did start getting cold after 60 mins though.

There was a plethora of Hypselodoris dolfusi with more than 3 on each car wreck.

The usual Phidiana / Caloria species were around as well as a few other Hypselodoris species

My usual dive buddy and I had a third photographer join us on both dives, and although he was also diving Nitrox, he did join his two mates on the first dive leaving Kerstin and I alone to continue our first dive, which for our usual plan is a deco dive. (We carry stages with 50%).

On the second dive however I was surprised to see him hovering above us at 60 mins, when most other divers had already left the site. Given that Kerstin and I were now using EAN40, I had a feeling that he may possibly be close to his NDL.

Within a few minutes I looked up again from my photographic subject and saw that Kerstin had deployed her long hose and was breathing off her octopus. The guy had run out of gas.

All three of us then ascended the mooring line together to the surface.

The only words I said were "I fail to understand why you didn't ascend earlier when you had reached 50 bar" he did not respond!

I hope he learned a lesson.

Haven't posted in a while, mainly because I've had a long SI and dive plans elsewhere have been shelved.

I did manage to get back into the water last Friday and I realized when we were heading back to the marina, that I won't be diving again for at least another month due to mainly work and flight schedules.

I also noted now that I didn't post my tugboat dive last month, but I'm at work and don't have access to some shots taken on that dive.

Friday was not as calm as I would have wished for, but we had a reasonably less crowded boat with only 7 divers on board running out of Barracuda Dive Center on BDC 1 (their smallest boat).

Mares Mark was missing his buddy Simon, so he joined Kerstin and myself.

Deep Reef was our first stop, water was clear until about 10m then through a murky cloud and vis opened up at 18m from where the bottom at 28m was clearly visible, I was very happy :D

We found two seahorses and a couple of nudis.. The only thing was the water temp at the bottom, a rather chilly 23C again!

The second dive was just as cold on the Blocks, but at least we had plenty of nudis to photograph even if they were mostly H. dolfusi and C. militaris, despite the 2m visibility on that site.

When Kerstin gave me the "I'm effing cold" signal, I was quite relieved to ascend into warmer water in the upper area of the water column.

Dived alaqqah last week. 6 dives.
Still in my full body skin suit.

Dived as deep as 24 meters.

Water temps still about 27° on average with a few (brief) thermoclines about 24° .

The only difference from mid-summer is that surface temps are now pleasant.

Lovely.

Of course being on rebreather doesn't hurt. Would have been 3mm temps for me on OC for sure.

If you aren’t diving this weekend you’re seriously missing out: water is 28-29 C (Yes, even on Inch 1)

Viz is fine and fish life abundant.

We did 4 dives today and will do 3 tomorrow:)

Back diving in UAE after long SI, too many trips to Riyadh the past few months.

Water was 26C and air 23C so it was warmer in the water.

Diving with Barracuda out of FIMC, new reef - Angels Reef - pretty much like Deep Reef and Ruby Reef, didn't see anything of note.

Second dive on Car Cemetery 2 was awesome with 10-15m vis, I could have shot wide angle, and for the first time in years able to navigate easily between the cars.

Next dives planned for Boxing Day.
