Why SP use "Mk" for first stages?

Does anyone know why Scubapro uses "Mark" for their first stage designation? Also when did they change from Roman numerals to regular numbers?

don't know definitively, but using Mark to designate types and configurations is standard in our military around WWII time frame, so I imagine that instead of trying to come up with naming conventions they just used the mark designation. Unsure about the numbering

Don’t know for sure but my bet is because of Dick Bonin’s Naval background and work with UDT/Seals. Mk is a standard designation for naval equipment, for example the Mk-19 Grenade Launcher.

Just a guess, but maybe they switched to numbers instead of Roman numerals because they figured most people wouldn't be able to read beyond X. Or is it V?
