The Rescue of 18 tourists and one American is dead in a boat fire in Marsa Alam | Hurghadians

I don't see any mention of this being a dive boat?

Wasn't this a few years ago?

Specifically to the red sea, "safari" is often used interchangeably for "liveaboards" locally. The news article you linked to looks like something like a local or Red-Sea based news. I understand that "safari" has other uses elsewhere in the world.

Search "red sea safari" without quotes around it in Google and you will see what I mean. It gives you all dive liveaboard hits. Many Germans and Austrians, as well as UK folks go there and also use the same term regularly.

Hurghada isn't Marsa Alam, it's another dive destination more up north, from where lots of Safari boats (or yes, liveaboards) leave...

The second article you posted has info on "a diving safari".
"...Qusayr Prosecution started its investigation under the supervision of Attorney General Nabil Abuzinah, in the incident of the fire at the touristic «Susana» in Marsa Alam during a diving safari this morning, which resulted in the death of an American tourist and the rescue of 18 other foreign tourists and 12 Egyptian..."

Not in any I posted. I did see that in the second link Miyaru posted. Ok, poor journalism aside in the first news story, I suppose it was a dive boat. It seems that the crew were heroic in saving all that followed escape instructions. It's unfortunate that one didn't, if that claim is correct that she went back to save her laptop.

I wouldn't discount that scenario, after seeing people react in an emergency. It's easy to make a poor decision when you don't fully understand the danger, it will only take a second to get it. Very sad.
